Child locks...
Why don't manufacturers fir child-proof locks on the FRONT doors of cars? I realise there is a potential safety issue where someone could be trapped inside in the event of an accident, but I'm sure there could be a hidden override or something.
My problem is that I have a 6 year old with learning difficulties. If I sit him in the back, he climbs out of his seatbelt, which is very dangerous, so I have to sit him in the front where I can keep an eye on him. Trouble is, he sometimes grabs the door handle and opens the door. I end up driving along with my left index finger hovering over the door lock button in the centre of the dash!
This was also a problem on my last car (BMW Z4) where there are ONLY front seats, so you have no choice but to put a child in the passenger seat...2005 Disco 3 TDV6 7 seater. Leather, DVD, fully colour-coded.

Mr B... pop into your Settings menu and set the Auto Door Locking to on.
The doors all lock as you drive off and to open the passenger door you have to unlock and then use the handle to open the door. A little more effort than if they are un-locked.
Might help a little as you'll get more notice of what he is up to before the door opens.
Also I seem to recall seeing somewhere some add on seat belt latches (for adult 3 point belts) that are more complex to undo... might be worth a Google to see if you can find them.
I don't think that the auto locking will work, I have it working on my car but it only stops them being opened from the outside not inside.
I think Simon is on the right track with with the cover of some sorts that goes over the buckle.Zermatt silver 06 reg.

Cliff I disagree - mine lock them from the inside too - I've lost count of the number of times, I've pulled up to let my one of my kids' friends out of the car whilst leaving the engine running and got the call "Dad - unlock the doors please!"Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

What I think Cliff is saying is that if either the driver or passenger door handle is pulled with Autolocks on then it does open the whole system. If someone in the back is first to pull the handle though it won't open. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I'm going to have to check this I'm sure the fronts are locked too, maybe people just haven't pulled hard enough? Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

I think you need to unlock with the little flappy thing by the handle first ?? Then it opens.
The rears are locked until you remove the key

While all the above sugestions may be of use or not it is worth pointing out that the law states, that if a child is under 12 it must be in the back seat with proper restraints. While I sympathise with your problem dont know if PC Plod will if he pulls you over. I would concentrate on keeping your child safe in the BACK seats.Just Bought one
