Check for possible damage to coolant hose. |
|
A quick inspection of the bottom coolant hose next to the in-line thermostat housing where it's retained by a loop of plastic, may show signs of damage if the hose has slipped out of the plastic support bracket. See attached photos for my example.
The hose on my disco would not remain seated in the plastic support bracket and damage had been done to the coolant hose by the sharp tip of the curved plastic hose support pressing into it.
Access to the hose is by removing the smaller front plate from below the engine. Two 13mm and two 10mm bolts hold it in place. The coolant hose and support should be easy to see, especially if off road height is selected. ( Remember to support the chasis on axle stands while working !!! ).
My fix was to tie wrap a three inch length of split rubber fuel pipe to the inner edge of the plastic support to prevent further damage. See photos for example. Approx time to complete the check, 20 minutes.
I hope this prevents any serious problems in the future. Comments on your findings welcome.
P.S I'll see if my dealer is interested in my findings next week.
p.p.s Photos of damage and repair are in my gallery
Cheers,
Nick

I would say it's not visible from above as if I remember it's below the fan and radiator cowling and it's also possibly very difficult to see past all the belts and stuff in the way. The point of wear was at the bottom of the hose so not visible from above.
I really don't know.....sorry.
Nick.
