Check your gearbgearbox cooler pipe NOW.

On starting engine oil change recently I found an oil leak. Not to bore you with the long story....I will save that for my friends the pipe between gearbox and oil cooler had been rubbing on the front diff breather ,the pipe was not clipped up. I assumed this was overlooked by a previous mechanic however having fit the new pipe the bolt is to big to fit the bracket. On examination the old pipe bracket was also drilled too small and has never had a bolt in.Is this how landrover supply the car?
In any case check yours now it can be viewed through passengers front wheel arch. Further to this if you need to change this pipe open up the hole before fitting.
Note.....support gearbox/ remove xmember/ remove front propshaft/ at this you can manage to remove and refit pipe.
(Have some Radox ready) good luck.
I would like to know if it's only me with unclipped chaffing pipe please let me know

And for the D3 owners who stumble on this thread, your pipes will begin rusting through, and leaking...

Rust they do. Just had mine replaced as they started leaking at the rubber mounting point on the bottom of the engine. My thoughts are the rubber gasket retains moisture & this caused the pipes to corrode & then fail.

But still was the pipe bolted to the front of the engine or left dangling? Did bolt fit through bracket? All seems strange.

Mine was bolted correctly but it is a D3 not a D4

Is this another disadvantage of not draining engine oil conventionally from the sump plug and giving everything a visual check?- look what I found!

 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Had that on mine !
when I had the engine rebuild my indy replaced the pipe fitting with an off the shelf clip on fitting as LR price for the whole tube (it's the oil extraction tube !) was extortionate Censored

Did gearbox flush today..... was planned but leak on pipe forced it forward as I could not know what was lost. Big thanks to Robbie for his guide....please note had to lift revs a little at start of section 12 as pump did not prime on tickover.
