Simple really D4 has better exterior features than the D3..
Not really my kind of thing, but for that kind of money it’s not a bad upgrade.
Although I won’t be bothering.

And the cabin is much, much more practical. Plus it has a key to take out the socket, something I miss and try to do every time I park the D4.

Don’t get me started on the key - the Volvo is completely keyless in the sense that it’s enough to have it in a pocket and the doors open just by pulling and engine starts with a push button. It’s great except when having driven the monster (D3) where one needs to press the key fob to open doors, insert key, turn the key, etc. and you suddenly start to attempt the same on the Volvo.
Also EPB is opposite - D3 pull to enable, push to release. V70 push to enable, pull to release.
The D3 cabin is a really nice man cave. Fits everything and a bit more.

Don’t get me wrong, the D3 certainly has presence but there’s something about the 10-13 D4 that I love.

I’m just about to do this conversion and would not hesitate to use these parts. I’ve used them previously and imported parts from overseas into the Uk. A lot of these pattern parts are top quality and often you will find that they are produced for car manufacturers in the same factory and carry the oem part number embossed on the rear the only stamp that’s missing is the actual manufacturers stamp ie. Audi VW etc a lot of stuff made in China is made to insurance industry standards for non genuine parts.
Let us know how you get on with the conversion,Something I'd be looking to do in a year or so.

There are four bracket seats to move from the front panel and some trimming of the air intake duct for the bumper to fit properly. Have now done the gloss black wing grilles and the centre of the front grille is also gloss black along with the discovery lettering across the bonnet in gloss black. Headlights are plug and play, just the indicators flashing fast on the dashboard display, along with no drls at the moment until I figure out the feed into the headlamps whilst the engine is running.
