CHEAP AWNING FOR D3

Guys not that I’m tight with my money Laughing but utilising what I had to hand I took the wagon out today with some guy ropes, pegs and bungees to see how my poor man’s awning would look/fit. Shocked To my surprise it worked very well and went up in minutes Whistle . So now I know it works the wife is on EBay looking for Bright orange material to make a purpose built awning for our D3 to match the G4 tent we won off EBay last week Very Happy .

We currently have a OUTWELL tent which is a tad on the big side for short stays here and there so the small G4 tent along with the awning will give us much more flexibility while out camping Very Happy

I may try this with my decathlon tarp - but your tarp looks bigger
and is a perfect size - what size is it?

Get SWMBO to attach some hook and loop (Velcro) tabs to one edge of the awning, then you can have as many as you like, space them where you want and not waste cable ties.

Glad you told me what Velcro was Laughing

Decided not to go down that line as high winds will probably just tug the Velcro apart, instead we are going to use FASTEX Buckles (Plastic two pronged buckles) Wink attached to webbing straps then easily fastened to the roof rack in a loop. Cable ties as I said at the beginning was a simple fix to see how it looked Wink

Hi Andy.

wife has just ordered the material for it mate and should be here by Friday. Give her a couple of hours to sort the template, buckles, edging tape etc and should manage to get photos either Friday or Saturday if we're lucky Laughing

Are you using 2 separate tarps or just one. You give a size for yours as 2mx2m but it looks a lot longer than that.

Any chance of a link to the eBay material. Also where are the photos taken looks good.

Cheers

Hi Andy.

here is the Ebay link for the material mate. We are using orange but there are other colours. We decided to use "RIPSTOP" material in the hope it didn't rip so easily Laughing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251290936810?var...1439.l2649 we bought 5 metres of this material to allow for any errors Laughing

You will also need some edging tape to give some form of strength on the outer edges and to allow you to put loops etc on to. We bought two lots not being sure which would be best and you can get them here- http://www.profabrics.co.uk/shop/show_product_info.php?id=PT25-09
http://www.profabrics.co.uk/shop/show_prod...d=WN225-09

It didn't cost that much to be honest as you will see and when it is done it should be fit for purpose Laughing We hope! Whistle

Regards size, we measured it off a G10 army poncho which is 2m x 2m approx, but we are going to have a play around with it to make it fit better as it is difficult getting it to fit around the front of the roof rack and hopefully come up with something similar to my badly done photo shop Embarassed In the photo we are using two ponchos but that was just to get an idea of what we would need for a wind break. The plan is also to have a couple of wind breaks which the wife is going to copy straight from ones we have already.

Yeah you can't beat Langdale for camping. Just in Bowness for the week with the caravan.
