CHEAP AWNING FOR D3
Guys not that I’m tight with my money but utilising what I had to hand I took the wagon out today with some guy ropes, pegs and bungees to see how my poor man’s awning would look/fit. To my surprise it worked very well and went up in minutes . So now I know it works the wife is on EBay looking for Bright orange material to make a purpose built awning for our D3 to match the G4 tent we won off EBay last week .
We currently have a OUTWELL tent which is a tad on the big side for short stays here and there so the small G4 tent along with the awning will give us much more flexibility while out camping

Dunc work in progress mate SWMBO has found material on EBay and has already come up with an idea of how to attach a self made awning Watch this space for more info "Your mind is like a parachute! It will only function when open"!

I like that set-up
I may try this with my decathlon tarp - but your tarp looks bigger
and is a perfect size - what size is it?Mods - Narpy Grill
Planned Mods - De-tango

Get SWMBO to attach some hook and loop (Velcro) tabs to one edge of the awning, then you can have as many as you like, space them where you want and not waste cable ties.G4OC Secretary

Glad you told me what Velcro was
Decided not to go down that line as high winds will probably just tug the Velcro apart, instead we are going to use FASTEX Buckles (Plastic two pronged buckles) attached to webbing straps then easily fastened to the roof rack in a loop. Cable ties as I said at the beginning was a simple fix to see how it looked "Your mind is like a parachute! It will only function when open"!

Hi Andy.
wife has just ordered the material for it mate and should be here by Friday. Give her a couple of hours to sort the template, buckles, edging tape etc and should manage to get photos either Friday or Saturday if we're lucky "Your mind is like a parachute! It will only function when open"!

Are you using 2 separate tarps or just one. You give a size for yours as 2mx2m but it looks a lot longer than that.
Any chance of a link to the eBay material. Also where are the photos taken looks good.
Cheers

Hi Andy.
here is the Ebay link for the material mate. We are using orange but there are other colours. We decided to use "RIPSTOP" material in the hope it didn't rip so easily http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251290936810?var...1439.l2649 we bought 5 metres of this material to allow for any errors
It didn't cost that much to be honest as you will see and when it is done it should be fit for purpose We hope!
Regards size, we measured it off a G10 army poncho which is 2m x 2m approx, but we are going to have a play around with it to make it fit better as it is difficult getting it to fit around the front of the roof rack and hopefully come up with something similar to my badly done photo shop In the photo we are using two ponchos but that was just to get an idea of what we would need for a wind break. The plan is also to have a couple of wind breaks which the wife is going to copy straight from ones we have already.

Yeah you can't beat Langdale for camping. Just in Bowness for the week with the caravan.
