chassis rust
68k miles ,2 years old and some evidence of surface rust on the chassis ,especially at the welds,i bought a can of black waxoil ,looks much better after a quick spray,but suddenly thought am i doing the right thing,should i treat the rust first with hammerite perhaps, am i sealing the rust in,although on the tin it says apply straight onto the rust.....also a lot of the nuts etc look a bit iffy,am i just doing the factorys job

I have the same problem on an 06 LR3 with 20,000 miles. Just purchased it from the USA and brought into Canada. the inspection center advised that it looked like it had been exposed to extensive road salt or driven in very salty sea air. You would think the factory coating would protect it enough for 20,000 miles...good grief.
The mechanic advised me to have some of it sand blasted and then undercoated but he did not specify products. He said that any body shop could do this.
Any other advice? Is this a warranty issue?
