How is stating the obvious being OPINIONATED?
You have a SPECIAL need, but it does not alter the fact that for the vast majority of RV dual battery setups, there are better ways ( and cheaper ways ) to achieve far more superior results.2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

Can you buy that, or did you make it yourself? Useful looking bit of kit, as I'd use it very infrequently so no point converting my D4.

It's home made but very simple in its construction and cost about £270 all in but could be made cheaper.
A couple of guys have already asked for a build list which I'll happily do when we get back from the Pyrenees in a couple of weeks.

As I just paid £40 over the odds for my tyres I feel your pain!
I do like to see careful wiring, a disconnect, a regulated supply and individual fuses. Boyd has done a lovely job.
Meanwhile I have zapped a Ctek fuse whilst charging the blinking lawnmower. Grrr…. a 20mm x 5mm 8 Amp rupture resistant fuse; which I don't have in stock.

Hi Boyd,
I'm currently working a mobile battery box concept and saw the photos in your post. My requiremets are quite similar to yours. Are you using a Ctek D250S DC-DC to charge the battery through the 12V car socket and if so is it the LR standard 180W socket or did you do some special wiring?

Yup CTEK D250s on standard 12v socket, although I haven't a scope at home to trace what it's pulling I have measured the draw at sort of 60-80% states of charge and the peak draw through the CTEK sits nicely under the 20amps threshold and from the 3 weeks I had it running for the Pyrenees trip last year with pretty heavy usage it never blew the accessory socket fuse.
A word of warning though; I've never run the leisure battery right down (say below 60%) and then charged it off the car, so although the spec of the ctek says the max draw is 20amps.... I've never proved it.

And yes in you bringing up this old thread I've realised I never did the write up on it I promised to show how I built it
I'll get there sometime....
I've already extended the concept now too with a direct feed from a 100w semi flexible solar panel fixed to the top of the roof tent (neatly beside the solar vent I'm in the process of fitting - I managed to find the same make James Baroud fit to theirs). And also two auxiliary spurs on ISO connectors that are cut to run through the door seal and connect to mating halves on the roof rack. One being a 20amp feed for my 12v electric blanket and the other shared between the LED strips I've installed which are on a dimmer and 5 port USB charger that I've mounted at the head of the mattress. Topping that off, although not wired in yet I've also bought a 2 channel 12v remote and a very rudimentary temperature controller as I love the idea of being able to switch on the electric blanket from the campfire 8)
