Charging a leisure battery. |
|
The battery on the tint tent has gone flat, and I need to recharge it. As the tin tent is in storage, I have to remove the battery and charge it at home.
The simple question is, will a standard car battery charger do the job? I have one, but its rated at 8amps. If it wont do, what should I be looking at to get to do the job? Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

I use a standard Ctek charger on my tin tent battery, Im going to fit the quick release battery terminals as I take it out when it's in storage. I then just leave it connected and on maint mode when its not in the van, hope this helps.

I always remove our tintent battery over the winter. I then just use a trickle charger to pick it back up come spring - always worked before.

I keep my van connected to a hook up when I am not using it, but take it off the van every so often and give it a top up with a ctek.
I don't think you can go far wrong with a ctek for a leisure battery, I picked up a lot of info on the chargers from a thread by Robbie? I have the MXS 10 if that helps though the MXS 7 or 5 looks a great compromise.

You may find that the battery wants more amps than the charger can supply so will blow the fuse in the charger or trip out. Lead/Acid ones can do that.
A Leisure battery should be OK to bring back for very flat but your charger may not be up to it.
If it's not and you have another 12v battery lying about then connect them together pos to pos and neg to neg and that will put a little into the Leisure then the charger may work OK.
Be careful while connecting them together as there will be a spark Stew,

I have been after a 7 amp ctek charger but cant seem to get one at a decent price.
Have seen this
:http://www.ringautomotive.co.uk/uk/products/Cars/Battery+Care/SmartCharge+-open-New+Range-close-/RSC608
Which seems to check alternator as well.
Any thoughts from the electrical guru's?
Seems to be around £65
