Well, I had a play with my lights today, as going on a trip to France shortly, and wanted to know how long and how easy it would be - great fun with the LR driving lamps and lamp guards.....

but hey, only about 15 mins, and they were switched over to the continent setting - could I tell any difference - NO - see if you can spot the differences...

Before

After

Well, at least this has confirmed I won't be bothering to do this before the Tunnel Rolling Eyes

Just a shame it doesn't really do much, as this is a very good idea Confused

just out of interest, has anyone ever seen a foreign vehicle over here with stck on beam deflectors fiited? Years ago I used to fit them every year before the holiday, but when I realised that foreigners never fit them whilst over here, I stopped doing it, & never had any problems.

I have a small house on the Normandy/Brittany border which I try to visit for a long weekend every month. When I had my MG ZT, I used to change the xenon dipped beam at the ferryport because I would regularly get flashed in France if I didn't. Changing only entailed lifting the bonnet, removing the rubber covers behind the dipped beam bulbs and lifting or pushing down on a small lever. Literally a 2 minute job that could be done in any weather conditions.

I took my D3 over to France very soon after I'd bought it. I had a go at trying to change the beam without pulling the lamp clusters out but gave up. On that trip I drove about 800 miles in France in the dark on motorways, N roads as well as almost single track rural roads and never got flashed once. I wouldn't bother to change beam now even more so after seeing the photos!

I have just picked up a HSE with adaptive headlamps 08 & 1/2 model year , that is what the dealer told me anyway, the first one they had seen. Anyway I have just removed one of my headlamp units and nowhere on it can I find the leaver to adjust it for driving on the continent, does anyone know if this is done automatically via the SAT NAV, i.e. it knowing which country you are in?
I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

Did you look in the headlight where the bulb goes in as that is where it is in the old ones

Thnk it's very unlikely that it's done by the sat nav. What does the handbook say?

In any event, looking at the before and after photos above like me you may decide not to bother!

Thanks for your help Thumbs Up , I think I've found it, a fiddly little metal leaver on the side of the dip beam unit, has a fork on the lower part to operate another leaver, looks nothing like it does in the book Confused .
