Changing colour

Hi,
I've ordered a Montalcino red D4, which looks fantastic in brochure and I was totally sold on. Went away at the weekend and called in at a dealer that had one in, thought I would see it in the flesh, well it was very ordinary to say the least sort of a browny burgundy, it was a dull day which I'm sure didn't do it any favours but for me it was a big no. They also had a Defender there in the same colour, which looked totally different more of a purple burgundy, strange they look so different. I then decided to call at a different dealer on the way home to look at some other colours as I was going to have to change the colour I had ordered, when I arrived I noticed a red D4 in the showroom which I assumed was the Firenza red, but when entering the showroom it was Montalcino red, it was more a deep cherry red and looked stunning under the lights. I can't believe the difference in colour from inside under lights to overcast daylight, and as we don't get that many bright days, I have decided to be on the safe side and changed to mariana black. Real shame.

Look in the daylight

I looked at the Bournville LR colour - when I considered swapping to a D4
in specific lights just looks black...get it into the daylight & is a very dark choclately brown...& very nice to look at.

Some J/LR colours are almost "flip" & do alter thier character in daylight to articicial...hence my suggestion.

I didnt swap toa D4 (I kept ny D3 - Lugano Teale) & splurged on a Jag XK - which is Caviar colur which does the same coulr flip...dark brown in most lights....get it into the sun & its clean & it is a subtle red colour.

On thing I learnt from body shops & one very talented smart repair provider here is that mid cololred metalics & flip paints are a sod to match....I had a wine red - burgundy colour S type that shoewed up everything...I was advised to go for darker colours. Saves the tears later on.
 BREXIT - done properly.

Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Like Euan says there are a few colours that look totally different when the sun shines on them, I've had a couple of Baltic Blue ones and that colour totally changes when the sun is on it, my latest one is Aintree Green but I've only had it since September so not quite sure what it will be like when the sun is on it Whistle Laughing

always choose the colour based on resale...if you don't like it and you wanted it - chances are others wont like it

I understand the resale thing, but on your recent poll twice as many voters on here opted for red over grey, which suggested resale amongst Discovery buyers wouldn't be an issue....but ISTR the LR salesperson persuaded you the opposite was true....I suppose it all boils down to the right person looking at your car at the right time
(But I might be biased) Wink

I half agree, but at the end of the day a car is an asset and the point is more if you don't like it, then whats the chances someone else will? Then you are just shooting yourself in the foot.

I like the colour of Euan's car, for me if I could have chosen it would have been; Firenze red or one of the grey or silver colours.

As it happens I got a second hand one and am not that fussy over colour, so its black, just black and all black... I think its called black Whistle

In a dull day it looks black on a bright day it looks black.

In the winter it looks brown and black, in the summer it generally looks black Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

My last D4 was Ipanema Sand which I chose new despite it being suggested by another dealer that it was not a good colour for resale. I was buying the car for me, for the next 3 years so went for it and never regretted my choice. It too looked so different in changing light and was fairly unique in the area.

When it came to change I shopped around for the best price, D4s were in demand so I received several offers over the phone / internet for the unseen car. Most didn't ask the colour!

In the end I traded it in at the dealer supplying my new D4, they matched the best price I had received and didn't mention the colour at all.

We are all different and I would always buy what I like as long as I am fortunate enough to have the choice.

Simply it's your disco, get the colour you want, don't be a sheep with black grey or white its just plain boring.
The current d4 looks fan in your original colour choice, very suave

Australia 2014 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 SE Auto Loire BlueDiscovery 4

I have always like the blue colours, so it was bit of a no brainer when we order ours, we picked Loire blue.

And like a lot of colours it reacts to different light conditions. But in the end its an individual taste & as most people have their cars for a fair time, pick the colour you want.

But this is ours anyway.
