I ran all my D3/4’s on 18” rims and never changed any settings.

Hope you’ll be as happy as I was running 18”s.

Which wheel did you go for? Didn't know anyone made a Disco 4 capable 18 inch rim other than Compomotive with the PD1881.

Am I correct in thinking that LR don't make an 18" wheel which will work on the Disco4?

This what I thought when I changed down to 19" - I'm running Yokohama Geolandar A/T's (G015) 255/55 R19 111H - which seem to work well on & off road.

Yes Nige, LR don’t have a 18” wheel for the D4 or D5. Thumbs Up

fitted and happy so far looks a different D4 with new wheels Cool ride feels smoother which makes sense with more side wall
did spot this, guess there's some 18s and even 17s out there somewhere

It seems that your rather early D4 is equipped with some “left over” decall from the D3 series Confused
D3 had 17” rims available

Can someone please explain what the advantages and disadvantages of 17 vs 18 vs 19 vs 20 inch rims.

My D3 has 18 inch which I'm sure are factory original. My tyres are Goodyear 255/60R 18 112V.

I mostly do open road driving and some towing.

Thanks
Blake

That is standard “overland” theory tbh..

In a “nutshell” :

Off-road, like in sand, mud, rocks you need to air down for more grip. (CAN be as low as approx 1 bar sometimes)
The higher the sidewall the more you can airdown/deflate , so both bigger footprint and protecting the tyre from “snakebite” damage on roots and rocks , more side wall is also protecting the rim from damage…

+ the more comfortable ride both on and off-road

Tyre choice and availability in remote areas when overlanding is also a consideration 17” will be available almost “everywere” in remote areas, 20” not at least…

If Always onroad use and recovery services at hand, smaller than 18” makes no sense IMHO..
And 18” CAN still be fitted on a D3 with higher wall tyres than standard factory fitted… to generate plenty of room to airdown when needed!

I run : Pirelli Scorpion A/T Plus 265/65 R18 114 T

Edit reason: grammar
 Best regards
Harold

As above, a deeper sidewall protects rims from pothole damage and from curb dings when parking. The deeper sidewall allows for greater absorption of potholes and other road imperfections, thereby increasing comfort.

18” is the sweetspot in my opinion. On a D3 you can fit LR 18” rims and still fit the larger V8 discs and carriers.

You’ll need aftermarket 18” rims for the 3.0 D4 due to the bigger brakes, but it’s well worth it.
