Thanks for the clarification guys, I think I will put the higher sidewall tyres next time I change them. Tyres were new approx 15,000km ago so have got a bit of tread left on them.
My D3 is the 4.0 V6 petrol cologne engine (I'm in New Zealand). I think it has the same size brakes as the V8 petrol model.

Which wheel did you go for? Didn't know anyone made a Disco 4 capable 18 inch rim other than Compomotive with the PD1881.
Evo Corse also do the ‘ Dakar’ for LR. Tuffant or Terrafirma for steel as well as the new Defender one’s fittingPaul.

did you tell the insurance of the modification ?
If I were to change my wheels/tyres to different factory option does that count as a modification?

For an 18" rim on a 3.0 D4 it would be a modification, as the 3.0 D4 never had type approval/homologation for an 18" wheel. The 2.7 D4 did.
In practice, I never experienced any difficulty or additional cost when I informed my insurers, but that's not to say all insurers will accept the change.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I was considering my options. I've got a 2016 Landmark with the 20" wheels and it would be nice to get some more sidewall height but if the alternative is 255/55R19 it looks like that only gives another 1/4" of sidewall which really doesn't seem worth the expense.

I see Compomotive offer two different offsets for the PD1881s, ET33 and ET44 does it matter which is used on the D4?

I can't remember, there wasn't a choice when I got mine.
Give Barry at Compomotive a call. He might still give a discount as well. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I think the 44s are the ones they developed for the D4.
I've just taken some off my D3 V8 that were previously on her sport.
They made a huge (positive) difference to ride quality on the sport going from 20s to the 18s
I just fancied a change to the new defender steelies05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system

well honestly i haven't quite decided what to do with them they're currently sitting in the garage staring at me every time i open the door like a very expensive and large set of 5 paperweights
I did have a vague idea i might re deploy 3 of them to my trailer but to be honest that's starting to feel like a lot of bother as I'd need to change the hubs etc05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system

Means spares can be used on car or trailer, so there is a sensible logic to it..
