Changes afoot at LR Insurance
Well have used LR Insurance for 3 years now, happy as Larry with the cover and looking forward to many more years of their cover, til I spoke to them after receiving a PM from MrH re Tunisia cover! http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic35575-165.html
LR Insurance is/was underwritten by Royal SunAlliance. According to RSA person I spoke to this evening, that changed in July and new buisiness is being underwritten by LloydLatchford http://www.lloydlatchford.com/contact.asp?Type=Car%20Insurance . Problem is they don't cover outside Europe!!! Also there is a difference between being underwritten by a big well known insurer like RSA compared with a brokerage that I've never heard of, who is actually underwritting the policy is not clear. This seems like another step backwards for the LR brand like AA taking over LRA!
Whilst I'm OK til Feb, and hopefully can stay with RSA, if nit where can I get insurance that gives me offroad cover and can extend the policy to cover places like Morocco, Tunisia, Iceland etc?? MrH has spent 3 hours on the phone and got nowhere, tried MoreThan (part or RSA), Adrian Flux, etc. NFU Fit the bill but Tunisian cover is 3rd party!
Any suggestions anyone???

DOn't worry about the small broker - they will just provide cover from a large insurer.... possibly even RSA!!!! In the documents for any insurance proposal they are required by law to tell you plainly, and clearly in non-gobbledeygook who ultimately insures you.

On the bright side,. NFU do cover Iceland (at present!!)LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Hi DG, that's fine for those who have a policy but if you let it lapse for whatever reason, you're on the new policy, which means the same question as those that are new to LR Ins (including new LR owners) applies, "what now ?"
I'm generally happy with NFU, but I never thought I'd have this sort of trouble finding another insurance offering Tunisia cover above "thirdparty only" - maybe it's a sign of the times and insurance companies just don't want the extra risk any more - but what's next, skiing holiday cover? LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Just spoke to RSA re existing LR Ins policy and on renewal I will not be able to stay with them unless I go through Ford or Volvo insurance, already tried More Than and they don't cover the likes of Tunisia or Morocco! And no offroad cover!
Also spoken to the new folks that wil be doing LR Insurance, basically Jaguar Car Insurance. When I asked about offroad cover, the person on the phone asked if that was "track days" She said they did do offroad cover but I'm not sure she knew what I meant.
I then asked about foreign cover out side the EU, she said nothing outside the EU! When I said what about Switzerland, Norway, Andorra, Monaco, etc she said yes to Switzerland but had to check Norway! but definately no Tunisia or Morocco.
Like MrH is finding, North Africa seems to be an issue for insuring, anyone else going on these sort of trips fully covered & with who??? NFU seems to be 3rd party only!

The plot thickens!!!
Spent hour or so (like MrH did) on the phone and come up with a glimmer of hope from an unlikely place. Thought to mself who else does RSA underwrite and tried More Than, wase of time as spent 5 minutes trying to persuade them that Tunisia was not in the EU, answer no then! Also tried Ford Insurance and go a result. After checking, lady on phone said they did cover it! Result! Obviously no offroad cover!

Just spoken again to RSA and spoke to someone that could speak directly to Renewals and NO, I won't be changing over to the new lot and will be staying with RSA, so will be able to do trips to far flung places!!! I asked him to put it in the notes on my policy in very big letters. Me happy bunny again!
