Called in at my dealers on Friday to order a loadspace protector.
Very helpful - he has advised that mine a SE in Cairns blue should be being built week 50.
While chatting he indicated that the 2006 model was going to move into a new build and there would be some spec changes - SE dropping the Xenon headlights but adding roofrails and front parking sensors.
Mine will still have the Xenons which is what I want - but if you have one on order it might be worth checking exactly what spec you are getting.

I have never known so many changes in such a short space of time. No wonder they have electrical errors.

The only specific change for the 2006 model that I have seen mentioned in the German press is that the maximum ground clearance in off-road mode has been increased to 310mm (with air suspension).

Unofficially that can be done by any dealer if they know what to do with testbook. Mine was set up for off road height, which does show and work well off road.

It's just the normal process of product improvement
Perhaps customer feedback has suggested that Xenons aren't an essential item (remember that across the industry they're usually only fitted to high-spec models) and roof rails/front PDC (2006b SE) and bright pack (2006 S) are more useful as standard fit.
Or maybe they're running out of Xenon headlights but have got plenty of roof rails and PDC sensors
Changing which items are bolted onto which cars as standard won't make any difference to the occurence of electrical errors 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

Xenons could make a difference at resale time - must admit - I do like the blue glow they give out
Also - I did not order roof rails on my SE when I ordered it and now sometimes wish I had - any post factory fits available? Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.

I think its more a case of... now we've been selling like hot cakes (and especially by adding high ticket items like Xenon's from the S upwards) we'll reduce the spec, add low cost options and retain the additional margin when customers order the Xenon's as an option...
Call me cynical but its a trick many manufacturers use to entice customers to new product to boost sales.
Personally I would choose Xenon's over and above any other option as they are so flippin good at lighting up the road ahead.

Oh... and I am very surprised that they removed them from SE spec as well as the S.

I would concur.
Xenons very good, and with my time over again would not spec the bright pack.
Fog lights unecssary with xenons.
Auto dip rear view mirror poor.
Puddle & footwell lights OK but should be on as standard.
Rain sensing wipers OK.
Auto headlights more foiled by rain/fog to be useful.
Roof rails however should be standard on all specs. I have never known any car before where you have to spec an option before you can spec another simple option like a roof rack (of whatever design you want) this smacks of blatent profiiteering Come on LR this is a practical family/workhorse vehicle. the RRSport is the 'showy' ''posh' brother

Also saw a new HSE yesterday - so assume 06 spec - with a large-ish fairing over the usual (on my SE) flat GPS aerial at the rear of the roof - is this something to do with the phone installation? Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.

If it looks like a toy boat upside down (black hull & keel), then it's the telephone aerial, as I have one (and no sat.nav.) Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

I have the 06 price and spec. for Switzerland. The SE still has the xenon headlights. The only change I noticed is an overall 5% price cut!
Very nice indeed.

As I ordered my Disco last weekend, the dealer said that there would be new prices here in Germany as from 1st January. I assumed he meant that they were going up, so felt quite smart that I had ordered the car in time. Surely the price isn't being reduced and I've cheated myself. Ouch!
