changed rear rotor - now have engine fault

I love these cars lol

So my rotors were grinding I think one of the pads wasnt releasing and has badly scored the surface. (linked to my other brake issue of a leaking brake line?)

So yesterday I replaced the rear right rotor. I also changed out the pad sensor too (not that this was much use as it was on the pad which wasnt sticking)

I didnt touch the parking brake shoes, other than to adjust them as per instructions of tighten and then loosen off a couple of clicks

Put everything back together with new rotor and new pads and sensor - and I get brake failulre lights, parking brake error message on the dash and an 'engine fault' message on the dash too.
My car is now on its bumpers and because of the engine fault wont raise up - so is undrivable

given that the only thing I changed electrically is the pad sensor, would this cause such a christmas tree light on the dash?

I guess I should dig my old sensor out of the bin and try to refit it first

seems it was the sensor - which is logical in a way

I unplugged both ends, refitted and everything is hunky dory now

One of the most eccentric things about these cars is the amount of red herring fault codes thrown up

I was getting transfer case, speed sensor, and parking brake faulture messages in IID - when it was the brake pad sensor

The systems have to operate collectively, if there is a fault in any one system the others throw the toys out!

Hopefully you're OK now, but ideally you are always better to put the parking brake into "service mode" with IID before making adjustments. Thumbs Up

how is the service mode activated?

All I see under Service/test menus for the parking brake is 'unjam procedure'

With GAP IID. Select Control I/0 > select Parking brake > select Position > select MOUNTING (not latching)

Or you can do it manually, turn on the ign but don't start the car, press the brake pedal three times and hold the pedal down. Push down on the EPB switch for 5 seconds. Thumbs Up

thanks. i tried this and the pedal routine didnt seem to do anything, and the IID says: position unknown

I can press latching or mounted - nothing happens

parking brake works fine though (as in it engages and disengages, and stops the car moving when enabled)

"Latching" is an unjamming procedure, "Mounting" is the service position and allows the cables to be fully released as well as initiating a new "learning mode" for the PBM when the work is completed.

You won't necessarily hear anything happen, "position unknown" I have not seen before. Thumbs Up
