DG, nay probs. The mic just fits when lid is shut but you have to coil the cord. However when in use the mike is normally on my thigh or on the terrain response. The Mic I have got has a scan button and channel up/down button too so really a one touch option.
Really happy with it, at totally removable when needed, and the cool box can be fitted back quickly.

Just been outside again and hopefully you will see why I decided to fit the unit in there. With the tray fitted the mike is now fitted and the lid still closes.
However DG did have a valid point, and if you decide to do this too then I wuld suggest the Mike needs to have the channel up and down buttons, or scan button, and a volume control. Otherwise you have to drive with the lid fully open.

Just an observation Mac ..what happens if you have the rig the front end of the cubby and turn it around so that the mic connector is on the drivers side ??21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

DG, I was going to fit it that way. But, and its a GREAT BIG BUT, if you look at the pic with the Mike fitted and Lid open, see the bit of the lid where it is hinged. You need this recessed area for it all to fit without touching.
If you fit the unit the other end the lid tapers towards the catch area and it would'nt close.
Valid point there, and well pointed out question. In my opinion its only the Midland, or President Harry that will fit this way, both upto the job well and with numerous measurements taken, whole cubby area removed to hide wires I feel this is the best way to go.

I did it this way.....
Held on VERY securely by som eheavy duty Velcro. It's the stuff designed for use outdoors as well, so judging by it's strength so far, have no doubt it will be strong enough. Saves having to scuff up the leather seat or remove the fridge
Anyway, here's the pics, sorry not great quality, but best I can do on an iPhone as it's getting dark....
I've bought a cheap £4.99 extension speaker from Maplins and it sits neatly velcro'd behind the H fascia at the top just under the air vent.
Been using it to test today on the way down the M6/M1. I thought it might rub on my knee, but plenty of room, easily clear without me having to make any kind of conscious effort to avoid it.
Cables routed cleanly tucked under the centre console & out to the back of the car to the aeriel.Bodsys Brake Bible

When I started to tackle the cool box removal i thought to myself why am I bothering, and seeing yours there Bodsy I wished I had seen it before. I would have copied you. The Midland is a great little unit anyway, and prooves we can tuck them anywhere really. Except between the Leather seat and cubby box, like you I value the leather too much to scuff it
