I'd say that cost was worth it if car was a 'keeper' for me
Guess there would be a painting cost also pushing it up even further
Like to see the quality of it though

I'm sure there will be Chinese copies for 1/10 the cost on the bay in a few months. When the D3 to D4 grills came out they were expensive....took a few months and they dropped in price.16 D4 Landmark

What a great idea! It’s funny to think that McGovern was saying that he wanted to put the aftermarket styling people out of business recently, yet here he is handing design opportunities to them on a plate!

Looks OK as a rendered CAD model. I assume it must be raised above the surface of the tailgate, to hide the offset dip. I wonder how it will look from the side? It might just look like a stick on numberplate holder. Richard

You know this is exactly what I have thought now for many weeks. We even have folks posting nursery drawings of how the rear of the car should look in their humble opinions. For Gods sake get a grip on life its a bloody number plate and it is at the rear of the car so you never have to look at it.
At least you have something relevant to comment on as you are actually lucky enough own one unlike the vast majority of posters on here!!

A lot of people on here have taken the conscious decision not to buy one rather than not being able to. Actually, I have nearly wavered as you get used to look of a car with time even if you don't really like it! Hardly the way to start an expensive relationship mind...
Trouble is what they have done to the middle seats (height, lack of three individual seats) and the boot size and shape (not as useful for carrying bikes as the D4, split seat issue relevant here also) cannot be fixed. Therefore the car no longer offers advantages over other similar cars - I don't really need the low ratio gearbox. Thus the replacement for my car can come from a much wider sub set. Volvo XC90 is winning at the moment.2014MY Discovery

£725 just to have a central number, no thanks. Also not sure I want to start cutting away at brand new car and possibly void the warranty, should there be issues with the tailgate.
Happy with OEM poor design rather than paying extra for aftermarket tat.
That’s not the point though is it. An aftermarket designer has come up with a simple design that is so much better than the original. That really does look so much better.
No you shouldn’t need aftermarket improvements, the OEM shouldn’t be poor design to start with.
As for the original being iconic and a talking point, so was the elephant mans face but I wouldn’t want one. Arthur.

If the rear end design is subject to ridicule and deters enough buyers then it is a problem.Arthur.

first thing everyone says about the D5, nice car but shame about the ugly rear end spoiled by the stupid offset number plate. It just looks wrong no matter how many times you see it.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

I’m just surprised that by simply moving the number plate to the centre, all the other apparent flaws, boot space, uncomfortable low rear seats, ugly front, heavy price tag etc have been cured. Who’d have thought it
Seriously though, I don’t see why the number plate is such an issue. Is it really that bad?
I think the number plate size is the problem.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
