CD Squeal
Just wanted to find out if anyone else has this issue.
When playing CD's, I can hear a background squeal coming through the speakers.
It is pretty evident when going between tracks, but can also be heard when a song is playing.
I told my LR service dealer about it during my last service and even demonstrated it.
He came back to me saying that he tested it on new D3's and it is the same.
I've ejected my cd's and cleaned them, but still the same (just in case).
Anyone else have this issue ?
Or is it actually something faulty that needs replacing ?
I have a base (CD-400) head unit and it makes no high-pitched noises - mechanical nor electrical.
Sounds like they did not want to change the head unit.
Good luck!
Rob

I have a base unit too but it doesn't squeal in fact, the music it puts out is quite clean and musical. Prior to the s/w upgrade, the CD unit use to lock up if I tried to flip through tracks very quickly, now it does what it should have done in the first place. Now when I open the car door I can hear the CD drive trying to start-up even without a CD inserted - these Landies do have character!!'06 Disco 3 TDV6 SE Buckingham Blue

Mine has no squeal, but cd,s ocasionaly get stuck and need the battery disconected to get it to eject, this only happens going over rough tracks. I dont use cd,s now, Ipod is the go.
Your sterio unit should be replaced under warrenty.
...just make sure that if you take it in for a renewal or to get a "stuck" CD out it isnt a home brewed / copied one (burnt yourself CD) they will argue that there is an instruction somewhere that states this isnt covered by warranty. Then they want you to pay
Before the Ipod age I used to only use copied ones in my Disco 2 6cd changer - it went on the blink & when they put the new unit in & extricated my CD's got really shirty (without the r) about what CD's I'd been using. The underseat unit in a Disco 2 was reasonably accessible & stripdownable (i had done a CD recovery very carefully many times) - but had to get it changed eventually
They didnt charge me for the unit or the labour - but it was huge quarrel.BREXIT - done properly.

Not wishing to contradict you directly Bruce, but it is entirely reasonable for a home made cd to be utilised in the changer as the system is capable of playing mp3's that have been put onto cd media. Therefore if it has the feature they then can't argue about the 'wrong' type of cd being used 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Dual/DVDPlus discs
Please be aware that a new generation of DVD
discs is being adopted by the music industry.
They are known as Dual Discs or DVDPlus
discs. They have digital music on one side and
video content on the other. Current in-car audio
systems with a front loading CD player may
load and play this type of disc, however, it is
likely that the disc will not eject and may jam the
mechanism. Such damage to a CD player will
not be covered under warranty.
OK guys get your point - I see what you mean...
The dealers I encountered just didnt want to know & tried to charge me 1st for the head unit (burggered - with Nav DVD in) then for 6 changer...
fortunately I dont have to use them anymore..BREXIT - done properly.

Do you have a phone charger or other things plugged into the power supply sockets.
I have noticed this hi-pitched noise with some phone chargers plugged in.In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
