Casino Royale - possibly a tad OT

Anyone seen the new 007 film yet? Absolutely crammed with Ford product placement, especially Land Rovers.

Great scene when Bond is checking in to a hotel and an 'up himself' guest asks him to park his gold RRS. Bond proceeds to whizz it around the car park, park it nose in next to a silver D3 (hoorah) and then whack it into R for a high-speed reverse into a Jag (although neither car appears damaged).

Lost count of the number of LR products - starts with 3 110s in a jungle and last one I noticed was a FFRR prior to the 'torture' scene.

Apart from that, not sure if it's as good as the hype. Nearly 2 1/2 hours long, a lot of card-playing (as in the original book), not much acting and some continuity issues if you are even vaguely aware of the previous films. But the first chase scene, when Bond is after a bomb-carrying courier is staggering. And it's all on foot. Amazing.

And the baddie, Le Chiffre, looks just like former England cricket captain Nasser Hussain.

This is a good film but it's not like any bond film before.
Loving the power of the TDV8!

Actually, being a Bond afficianado, I entered in to watching this newest release with more than a fair amount of skepticism as Craig was great in "The Layer Cake", but as Bond?............

Here's my thoughts after seeing the film: It was well written (dialogue better than any Bond since Thunderball / Goldfinger) and Craig is the "bomb". This guy is much edgier than any recent Bond and he's tougher than the young Connery. In my opinion and in the opinion of the other three people I went to see the film with (including my wife), Bond is back!!

Now, I'm really looking forward to the next installment in the series. They made the right decision. Brosnan was too much of a pu***.

Mark

P.S. The Ford placement was a little much, but at least we got to see a bunch of Land Rovers.

Agreed. Him turning up at a hotel in a Mundano was akin to when Brosnan appeared in a BMW Z3 in Goldeneye - both scenes are gratuitous car adverts and do nothing for the film.

Shame about the DBS, spends all the film in the hotel carpark and then when driven gets written off within a few miles just because he had to swerve a bit.

Does not say much for the handling. Must be rubbish.

Oh! and why was Bond newly promoted to 00 status? Does every Bond movie presume the previous ones never happened or does M realise that this is a new guy with the same name?

Did like the film though it could have done with a big finale and more action from the DBS.

I watched the TV program about some of the stunts in the movie. They had set up the car roll stunt with another vehicle as they only had two Astons they could wreck. They had a small ramp they would drive one side of the car up, flipping the vehicle over. It worked great with the test vehicle. When they tried it with the Aston, it would flick up, then back down onto its wheels again. They then tried it with the ramp set higher, but the same thing happened - the car was just too stable. They ended up having to install a gas ram, that when triggered, fires a ram pole and plate out the bottom of the car, thus sending the car into a roll. They achieved 8 (I think) rolls, putting the stunt in the Guiness book of records. The pole and plate were then CGI'd afterwards.

Being a bit of a Bond Fan myself I agree with Mark D.

Thought the film and Daniel Craig were excellent.
There was no "Bond vs the Matrix" rubbish like we saw in Die Another Day.
All the special effects in this one looked real and there was less reliance on gatgets and gizmos.
The film was a bit darker and Bond was a bit "harder" than before which in my opinion is more realistic rather than the Roger Moore joker!!

Bond is well and truely back and I also look forward to the next one!

Did lose count of the number of Ford (and particularly LR) products!!

It was 7 rolls, beating Top Gear's record of 6 (in a Ford Sierra estate).

Yours anally...
