I have always changed tyres as soon as I bought each caravan for peace of mind
caravan tyres usually look new because they don't do the miles like car tyres
the problem is they sit in the same spot for 90% of their life
this is where flat spots occur which generate heat when rolling and can cause blow outs, which are the main cause of the overturned vans you see on the motorways

as a rule I changed mine every 3 years, and used winter axle stands for long winterized storage

I also used tyron bands as a precaution which stops the tyre coming off the rim even if it deflates

many will say im too over cautious but travelling at speed with a precious family cargo miles from home cant be traded for a few hundred quid of sensible safety measures Thumbs Up

tyres available by order in most tyre places and online and can be fitted by all tyre fitters (although if fitting tyron band some fitters may struggle as they are sometimes a PITA, buy the best you can afford and check pressures every trip

If my wife ever sells my stuff for what she thinks I paid for them, you lot are gonna get some bargains!

^^ As said above, caravan tyres rarely wear out ie they always have a healthy amount of tread BUT quite often if you remove the wheels and look carefully down between the treads you can see cracking/splitting although they may appear good otherwise.
If a caravan tyre shreds at speed they can slice through the wheel arch and if you are unlucky enough, demolish gas, water and electric pipe work and cables Big Cry
I've seen it twice with caravans arriving on site with no utilities and a gaping hole in the wheel arch/body.

For the price of a couple of new tyres its worth the peace of mind Thumbs Up

I replaced ours last year, they were five years old. I always take them off for winter storage and keep them in the garage. The sun degrades the rubber over time and causes the cracking.

I paid £80 each for Nankang, I have had them previously on two other vans and have always been happy with them. Thumbs Up

For the German 'tempo 100' which lets you do 100kph in Germany, maximum tyre age is 5 years.
The production month is marked on the tyre.

The tyres my supplier recommended are 'van' tyres. Not cara-van but you know, the construction worker vans. I was surprised to find that these come at a maximum alllowed weight of 850 kg. My (single axle) caravan has a max weight of 1600 on the axle... that is 100 kg below the max load. I would have liked them to have more reserve...

I would normally swap my tyres every 3 years despite their tread depth. They tend to crack due to sunlight so it's prudent to cover them with a board or thick cloth. I did a fair bit of caravaning last year and took the tyres on my TA Tintent from 9mm to 5mm in a year so looks like I may get a life out of this set!
