Car Smooth Tickover Running Poll
Hi all,
I am having an issue with my car and I am trying to get it resolved, hence this research.
Please could anyone with a TDV6 manual Disco try the following next time you drive in traffic and report your findings on the above poll (and add any comments as necessary).
Let the car pull you along in second gear on tickover and slowly accelerate away (as you do when the car in front pulls away) and let me know by the poll whether it :
Smoothly pulls away, or
Bounces and jerks until you accelerate past 1000 rpm.
Also the same result should also be able to be replicated if, whilst the car is pulling you along on tick over you go up a very slight incline, or you turn into a tight junction again using second gear to pull you along (as I was taught to do when I passed my driving test many years ago).
Thank you for any feed back you can give me to help resolve my ongoing (and still unresolved) issue.

Mine an auto, so no direct comparison. I have an uneven idle when the engine is cold to midway through its warm up. It hunts up and down the revs slightly, and the rev counter needle visibly bounces. If its in Drive, and I have the foot on the brake it makes the car judder and shake a bit.
I suspect if it was a manual then your experiment would produce a juddery experience. I had it in the garage last week, and the ecu was re-flashed with the latest program. This has made no difference. It only seems to do it when it warming up, and when the temp is cold enough to fire up the webasto. It is as smooth as silk when warmed up.

Is yours also very jerky between 1st and 2nd too ?
Most times its very hard to get from 1st to 2nd without the revs dropping and the D3 lurches while it catches up with itself.

Mine does this too (even with Turbochip). I have noticed that the more electrical load on the car, the more the rev counter dips.
Wierd.

I run a TDV6 manual and have exactly this issue, I actually wondered if 2nd gear was slightly defective as I can't tick over in it as it jerks, I also can't pull away from a standstill in 2nd without a real struggle despite Terrain Response prompting me to do so when in Grass/Gravel/Snow mode.
My car is currently at the LR dealer with it's gearbox out to look at a problem engaging reverse so I am secretly hoping I may get a new box.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Simon, Mine isn't too bad between 1st and 2nd gear although it does sometimes falter and pick it self up again.
Gareth, Mine judders in second all of the time not just while the engine is cold. Mine does 'hunt' around on idle sometimes when its cold and I thought it was to do with the Webasto, but I can tell you that it is not because my Webasto FBH hasn't been working for the past two weeks (typically whilst its been freezing weather) and mine still 'hunts' the rev range.
cotefarmboy, let me know if that helps the problem because that might just be the fix mine needs
