It is actually worse than it looks, surely!
Having had a ramp pop out sideways from under a 101 (you think D3 tyres are wide!) I'd never go underneath without solid support. My favourite is the wooden blocks they used to support motorway crash barriers. Very stable, don't coggle on mono-block, or sink into tarmac.

England

I've put both my Defender and Disco on Ramps similar to the ones shown in the picture on here - always on four ramps though - the one pair I bought when I had a Beetle and was about 17 - the last pair after I's bought the Defender.

Both sets I think are Halfords. I think I checked the rating of the old set before I used them - but either way, I don't have a safety issue with using them - my drive is flat so there are no funny forces on them.

The tyres on my Defender where 265 - so did hang over a bit - but again, as long as they were even not an issue.

I actually made a set of axle stands when I was at College many years ago - and tested them to either 2 or 3 tonnes and they didn't move - mind you comparing them to the 1.5tonne ones I bought from Halfords at a similar time, I'm no surprised - I used 1/4" angle and tube - the halfords ones look like 1/8"!
