Car prices
I was just pricing up a new Discovery 5 and it suddenly dawned on me that I could have bought TEN houses in inner London when I first got married for the cost of a new Disco 5.
Guess I am just getting old LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

Interesting thought exercise.
While I don’t presume to know how old you are, 2000 GBP in 1950 is roughly the same (purchasing power wise) as having 65000 GBP today.
While having 65000 GBP in 1950 would roughly be equivalent to 2.1 million GBP today.
If you had had 65k back then, bought those ten houses in inner London and would now be divesting - would you get more than 2.1M for all of them? I would assume yes, a house in inner London has to cost more than 210k/each. I would also assume that mandatory upkeep, repairs would still have made them a worthwhile investment. Additionally at least 9 of them would have bought rent in for 70ish years...
