this is why I like the folding mirrors, can always tell when the car is locked.
however I still have a steering wheel lock that I use just for peace of mind but it doesn't stop them trashing the inside. I only keep things in the glove boxes like torches, leatherman tools, sunglasses etc so nothing of real value.
doesn't stop the frustration though2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

So sorry to hear this Fishboy.
I have a couple of thoughts. I understand that the keys were not in the tin on the day in question, but worth double checking your tin really does block the signal. I’ve tried tins that were sealed and they didn’t do the job.
I also never lock my car with the key fob because of potential issues as you suggest. I use the buttons on the door to lock it (pressing twice to secure lock it).
I have heard that sometimes these people do put trackers on vehicles so might be worth checking around. Disklok steering wheel security is well thought of, so might be worth getting.
Good luck and please keep us informed.
Cheers
Best faraday box in the world; an old microwave oven. We have one by the front door and having a six car family, then friends and visitors, it never lacks space
Best deterrent; Stoplock Pro. Don't forget that they don't actually need to have a signal from your key as we found out last year. https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/disco-4-stolen-oy10udo-182375.html But a visible steering lock will hopefully dissuade them from smashing a window to gain access to the OBD port.Joe

Thanks, a little bit of reassurance.
Yes, mirrors fold when locking.
Cant remember the status of the mirrors as the door was ajar with the interior light on.
Did the car start, as if the door was open and the interior light on the car had not long been broken into. It doesn't take long to flatten battery with the door open and interior light onMY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Don’t the internal lights shut down after 20 minutes like they do on the D3, well did on mine?

Yes indeed as I disturbed them at 4am and saw them 50 yards up the road.
Car started no problem.
Sounds like the stoplock will be a permanent feature from now on.
Kind of need all the bits in it (tow strap, first aid kit, power jump starter, waterproofs etc) so have photographed them for insurance purposes.Last of the D4 HSE...

Thanks fella but think the car is now marked. What I really need is Ghost Recon sitting outside my house.
Don’t want them on my property again and certainly not in my house to find the keys.
Only solution I think is if she goes.Last of the D4 HSE...

I had one in the 90's on my XR3i - had to press brake and button in gearstick to start it

Can you not secure the driveway with gates or a bollard?

Shared driveway with the neighbour so bollards not an option I’m afraid.
Sadly, cars going at the weekend.
Someone must know how to remove the fuel burner module clip?Last of the D4 HSE...
