How can I test my EGRs ?

Hi all , How do I test my EGRs are performing as they should? I have a IID tool but not showing any faults at the moment but is there any way of looking into the egrs and if they are performing correctly, Car is very sluggish from cold and just doesn’t seem to have the performance it should, Suspecting sticking EGR

If you have an issue with an EGR it will immediately show a fault - the orange EML will come on. No light or fault codes mean they are working OK.

On the GAP Tool you can look at the live values for the EGR valves. I've not felt the need to do this yet, but others on here might be able to talk you through the process, if you have a GAP tool.

From memory, the IID will let you compare commanded valve position with actual, so you will need to run the IID while driving and watch the figures to see whether the valves are opening and closing properly.

One of mine sits in the 5% open position when it is meant to be closed, which means I get recurrent codes. At one point I managed to stop the codes re-appearing by using a spray can of EGR cleaner in the intake (after the air filter and MAF sensor) - this may have been coincidence, as I struggle to see how that could actually be an effective way to get a cleaner to the valves themselves. Fortunately my vehicle is too old to have an EML, so no potential MOT issues there!
