Can I upgrade D3 SatNav ????

We've just bought a new D3 XS - probably one of the last now that D4 is in the shops!

Whilst the car is great the satnav leaves a lot to be desired! For example, no traffic info, no 'safety' camera locations, no details about local speed limits. All of these are standard on my TomTom!

Also, my (obviously!) basic version of the satnav system doesn't give the 4x4 info and there's no TMC link.

My question is this:

Does anyone know if the system can be upgraded without actually chiselling the screen out of the dashboard?

Can you buy a new DVD to get what you want from the system or is the software already 'there' and available to unlock in some way?

I'd be very grateful if anyone can help!

Regards to all,

Tezzo

Theres a few guys on here who can unlock 4x4 info, wiggs and bell autos. but mines an xs and it didnt work when it was tried. Think TMC requires a module to be fitted. I would have thought you have the most recent version on an 09 model. The sat nav is a bit crap tho I would expect a tomtom maybe better, but it looks better!(looks are everything in this world)

No, but it'll do a better job of getting you where you want to go than the LR SatNav. Wish I hadn't sold mine Big Cry

Thanks all,

Lots to think about here. E.g. If you modify and unlock the software what does it do to the LR warranty?

The big question is, when you pay this much for a vehicle why does LR think that anyone is going to be content with a second rate ANYTHING on a Disco?

My top of the range TomTom cost less than £300 and it does everything except give you the 4x4 info! In reality the cost of installing TomTom quality would cost LR production next to nothing to fit - certainly when they're fitting satnav anyway.

And why would anyone NOT want 4x4 info on their screen if it's possible to have it? After all, most of us get a 4x4 so we can use 4x4!

The answer is, of course, to continue to use the TomTom in the Disco - even though 'looks are everything' When you drive 30+K miles per annum you need to know where the speed cameras are and that the A34 really does exist!

More comments welcome,

Cheers,

Tezzo

Absolutely bob on in my opinion Thumbs Up Thats just what I do. The built in satnav is great for TMC (I know TOMTOM can do that, but if it's there use it) it has got me a round many traffic jams in the past. But, when it comes to planning good route the TOMTOM wins (the Routes editions are even better).
