I'm just covering all bases with emailing LR etc. Just incase!
He is still under the belief that he is exempt from any responsibility with the private sale, so I need to put it all in writing to him. I am still in the 14 days, I've had it 6!
In ideal world I would like the repair or replace option.

To his personal account as he isn't trading from him other premises due to Covid so no card machine.
I can't force him to take it within the 14 days if he is adamant it's a private sale, so trying to get all my ducks in a row to put it in writing to him, via recorded delivery, by which time I may be out of the 14 days ? Or does that matter if I have made my intentions clear?
I would like the repair or replace as she is in lovely condition inside and out. Aghhh it's such a minefield

You need legal advice and a letter from a lawyer sent to him outlining why it is not a private sale and why you want your money back. Time is ticking.
These beasties chew money faster than you can print it when they go wrong. Get your money back and buy a ‘known’ car from the forum. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)

Does he have an email address? Send the letter by email ASAP and back it up with a hard copy by recorded delivery.
Good luck, IANAL, but my understanding is that the law is on your side in this matter. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Check with CAB but quite often theres free advice clinics held by local solicitors or there was before lockdown.
I have used this service and they gave me free advice and charged me £150 to draught a letter. This sounds a lot but got me a 9k refund from a garage and the wording of the letter gave the garage no way to squirm out or not give me a full refund.

It is crucial that you confirm the identity and address of the seller. This should be the previous keeper of your car if it was his personal transport and hence private sale.
I fail to see any relevance of trade insurance to address given on invoice, especially if he claims it is a private sale.
I expect the car was a part exchange, which previous keeper wanted to change because of increasing problems and repair costs. At 180k miles it is also a candidate for gearbox and TC issues.
If seller can convince you and authorities that sale was private, he is released from responsibility and cost. Any admission otherwise he is on the hook to provide an acceptable settlement. Some incentive to seem like a decent chap. Chris

I have his name, home address and business address. He says he bought it for himself, then found a lower mileage one so bought that one, I said to him but you sold that too as it was up for sale and that was the first car I enquired about.
I just got the new keeper slip. I could do form V888 but I'm not sure I would get the info in the time frame. Gov website also states there is a delay on paper applications.

Hi everyone,
My name’s Jordan Stilp, the owner of True Car Sales.
This is a first for myself, as you can see I haven’t had any bad reviews they are all 5 star which are all legitimate and verified by AutoTrader.
The vehicle is a 2007 reg with over a 190,000 miles on the clock so issues may occur. The issues I knew about were raised at the point of sale. Despite the fact I do trade cars, this vehicle was actually my own private Land Rover that I’ve done many, many miles in and never had any problems.
It’s unfortunate that issues have occurred, therefore I have offered the customer a full refund and collection of the vehicle. This has been rejected by the customer.
I’ve never had to do this before, however, I felt the need to address this as the sale was nothing to do with my company and was a genuine private sale, so seeing my company name being tarnished was very disappointing.
This is all I’m going to say on the matter, however, if any of you do have any questions, feel free to message me direct.
Thank you.
Regards, Jordan.
