Can CB radio affect GPS signal?

I have a cb aerial mounted to the rear of the roof, with a magnetic mount.

Its on the right hand side attached to the piece of steel that is between the glass moon roof and the tailgate, next to the roof rail.

Yesterday and today I have been getting a lot of GPS signal failure on the sat nav. The black GPS logo with the red strike through was on all the way home from Bradford tonight. The sat nav was a bit slow to to guide me also.

I've just been out to try her again, and now she is fine.

Is the CB interference a possibility, or a non starter?

GPS frequencies are 1200mhz + ISTR ...can't see how your CB would affect this but ...I guess anything is possible Confused

Not if you think the CB was transmitting on that frequency. However there will be an intermediate frequency that the GPS unit will down convert to before sending the signal down the wire to the receiver. If the CB is close/high power/working out of band then interference is always possible. Why not do a standard journey without the set on, and with it off - see if there is an obvious difference. Really there should only be an issue on transmit though. First thing to do if there is would be to resite the CB antenna and see if that helps. However many of us use higher power in the same area without probs.

What about the mag mount? would the magnetic field have an effect?

No - none at all - only moving magnets with wire generate signal in the wire so a fixed permanent magnet is not an issue.

Harmonics, 2nd harmonics, intermediate frequencies.........Answer to your query is 'possibly' Gareth..... but unlikely. Only thing I would discount is the magnetic field concern from the mag base.

If you have a legal (4 watt) CB set-up then the chances are you are barking uo the wrong tree. Were you transmitting all the time there was a GPS problem? I doubt it. Confused

If you are running a 100w 'burner' then this will change the above answer significantly....

Bradford Shocked - sure you still got the GPS receiver on the roof? Rolling with laughter
