Can the auto-on demisters be disabled?

I have read how the seatbelt gong can be silenced.
Can the automatic switching on of the electric front and rear screens when the temp falls into the icy be disabled in a similarly simple manner?

Can I ask why you would need/want to do this?

Yours, curiously

I rarely need my windows demisting or defrosting. I would like to give the battery less to do during starting. I would like not to have to turn off these devices each time I start up the car in cold weather with clear window. These things should be chosable from a menu, not mandatory. Mad

I have to admit, that I find I turn them off instantly more than I would actually turn them on if they were not automatic. Therefore, it ceases to be an aid but a hassle.

The rear one especially is a pain as it stays on longer and the dirty spray water marks the window in the pattern of the heating bars.

Can I turn this function on in a D3. Had it on my last car and liked it.

Yes - I find it an irritation also, with definitely having to turn screens off more than I used to turn them on with the D3 Shocked However, I think the concept is good - it's simply LR's implementation that is flawed Whistle

At present if the temp is approx 5C then the heaters come on at EACH start up, even if you have only stopped for a minute or two. Surely it is not beyond LR to alter the start up temperature to say freezing when it would be much more needed and/or to not run the feature unless the car had been "switched off" for a prolonged period of time Idea
