Camping trailer battery’s & inverter

Ok chaps I’m looking to set up the new to me camping trailer with new batteries and an inverter , 12v for plenty led lighting , fridge and phone chargers etc plus 240 hook up as and when needed Thumbs Up

It has got most of the wiring still in it but looking to put a newer system in , looking for advice on best batteries and inverter , and might even go for a solar panel Thumbs Up

And advice on components would be great Thumbs Up

Definitely get solar. At a minimum you want the same solar wattage as your total battery Ah. EG 2 x 120Ah batteries have at least 240w solar. A MPPT regulator will be more efficient than a PWM, but it will cost more.

Lithium batteries would be best, the ability to deep discharge them plus their weight saving. But you will require a lithium charging system if using the vehicle, solar or mains battery chargers.

Next best would be an AGM battery. Just make sure that whatever battery you get it must be a deep cycle type.

If you are planning on camping away from 240v hookups without a 240v battery charger think about running a dedicated 12v feed from the vehicle, via a smart isolator to the rear of the car. Use at least 13mm2 cable. The factory 12S wiring is too small for efficient deep cycle battery charging in the trailer due to a larger volt drop. Here’s a dual battery plus rear power example http://traxide.com.au/diy-dual-battery-kit...d3-ds.html

Do you really need an inverted? What do you plan on using it for?

Many thanks for reply Thumbs Up I’ll start looking all the bits and costing it up Shocked , I guessing an inverter just gives you an extra option if you needed it , ie small microwave etc .

Even a small microwave needs a big inverter. The start-up current is around four times the stated power output. And it needs "real" alternating current, not modified square wave.

You can't cheat by trying to run the microwave on reduced power. In fact, that is worse. The microwave can't do low power, so what it does is runs full power, but with stops and starts. So the 4x current is being drawn more often.

Just get a take-away.
