Camping in Europe

I know this forum is a wealth of knowledge so I'll throw this out there. We are off and our holidays at the end of the month with the intention of travelling around Europe, we've booked the ferry from Dover-Calais and the first nights stay about 30 minutes from the ferry terminal. I want to incorporate Grindelwald and then maybe on to the Black Forest, pushing on to Austria after that. I would appreciate any suggestions regarding campsites, routes, hotels etc from people with past experiences.

In Austria go through Tirol.

Wonderful scenery, lovely people, most camp sites have very good amenities.
And the food is amazing! Try local fayre, the pastries, sausages and meats, attend a "fest"
with the lager, sausages and potato salad whilst the band plays... Thumbs Up

Have a trundle along the German Alpenstrasse from the Bodensee (Lake Constance) towards Garmisch Partenkirchen. Loads of excellent sites then onwards and upwards to Berchtesgaden (good campsite at Konigsee and don't forget to visit the Eagles Nest, A. Hitler only went there once or twice!) OR have a wee look at Chiemsee. Neuschwanstein (Disney castle is a bit touristy but the area is outstanding). Bavaria & Austria, you can't go wrong. Served in Deutschland for a total of 15 years, would go and live there now!

Er, going to Grindelwald then on to the Black Forest might not be good route selection Whistle Oh, in the South you'll find the greeting is Gruss Gott (Guten Morgen/Tag/Abend is okay but GG is what you'll generally hear). Look forward to good beer, food, service and clean tablecloths. And finally, avoid the Brits Laughing And finally, finally, take Hess's advice.

Be advised about the background noise in the Austrian hills, it's only music Wink

Can I come, please.

Did a bit of a mini euro trip in June. We drove down through the black forest area, and stayed in Grainau which is very close to Garmisch as reccomended by Thurso.

I'd never been to Germany before so wasn't sure what to expect but I will definitely be going back to the South - amazing scenery, great food and some of the nicest people I've ever met. We were paying around 15-20 Euros for a German sized evening meal and 4 or 5 beers which is amazing value!

Stumbled across a local music festival and ended up decidedly worse for wear Very Happy

One thing to remember about Austria - make sure you have a 'Vignette' to travel on their toll roads. Think it was about 10 Euros for a week, but the bikers in our group somehow missed all the signs and ended up paying a 65 Euro fine Very Happy

Aah, the North Face of the Eiger. Stood at the bottom near the Bergschrund once. I was torn. Perhaps the most difficult decision I've ever made! Climb or go through hell in the nearest bar. I bravely chose the latter. Yes, yes I can hear you now: "What a man!" Mind you, I did have a new pair of trainers on!

Like the set up Thumbs Up

Ray... Did you take your pet cat with you? In the first picture, there seems to be a pussy cat sitting atop your spare wheel in the back of your 130.
