calliper slider pins
has anyone had any problems with there calliper pins, the pins fitted to my my13 d4 have rubber sleeves on the end making the callipers not wanting to slide had a right job getting the pins out with the rubber on the ends and even more trouble getting them back in
from what i can see the rubber is to stop the calliper moving on the carrier but as a result makes them bind so i have reassembled without the rubber on the end of the pin, anyone had the same issue ? is it safe to refit without the rubber? any advise/comments gratefully received thanksplease excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

I think it is more to do with noise, ie anti rallte/clatter.
Maybe someone has used the wrong grease causing the rubber to swell?

There should only be a rubber sleeve on one of the two pins.
The rubber sleeves do swell.
I had exactly the same problem as you and ended up just buying a TRW slider pin kit - part number LR020489G.

thanks guys, i also thought the rubbers are to stop the chatter when the brakes are first applied (clonk maybe) think i will drive it a few days and see how they go and fit new pins if its noisy or the pedal feels different
ps does the rubber on the pin go top or bottom or doesn't matter thanksplease excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

Yes it does matter, the pin with the rubber boot/sleeve should be fitted in the bottom position on a Land Rover Discovery.Gone 2016 Landmark D4

I had this on my sons Skoda vrs.
The rubber on the calliper pin swelled and jammed the caliper from sliding. This resulted in wheel wobble upon braking and uneven wear on the pads.
It was that tight I had to chisel it out of the calliper.
I used to use copper grease on brake parts but now use Ceratec. I’d applied this to the sliding pins previously which was an error as I now know this causes the rubber to swell.
I replaced the pins and used silicone grease and they’ve been fine since. Lesson learnt.Currently 2015 D4 SE Tech, Corris Grey
