Buying a towbar

Hello all, great web site of d3 owners

Just about to get 2006 disco 3, and require a tow bar. Is it just a simple case of buying the Quick Release tow bar and electrics are in place or do I need to contact tow bar specialists.

You might have to fit the electrics.

If you want a quick release bar then eBay is a very good source or Nick at Yoevil who will discount disco3 members on LR parts.

As VA says, electric's will need to be fitted (can be done DIY). These are relatively inexpensive unitl you get the dealer labour added in.

There is a setting the dealer needs to make in the car to 'tell it' that the electric's are fitted - I think its just to disable the bats in the boot and set up the air suspenders for having a trailer fitted and plugged in.

Look at my thread titled 'Tow bar electrics' Look on e-bay and expect to pay around 200 GBP for the quick release tow bar and an additional 50-80 GBP for the electrics kit.
Both are easy to self fit. The only awkward bit is routeing the cable harness around the harmonic damper (Swinging ballast weight) so it doesn't chafe.
It took me an hour and ten minutes to fit the cables and I'm a numpty!!! All the connectors are all there.
PM me for any additional detail.
Regards, Dug
