Buying a D4 - How much discount? |
|
Hello,
Can anyone assist please. if I was to buy:
1. A used D4 from a main dealer for 'cash' (no finance deal or PX), what might you expect me to get off 'the sticker price' (as an example, I previously bought a D3 HSE that way. It was on for £35k and I got it for £32.5k)?
2. A new D4. What sort of discount might you expect to get off the list price?
We've had a Q7 for the last 3 years. Loved both the D3 and the Q7 but would like a D4 because the D3 was the best car we've ever had.
All the best for 2012...

Is there still the 5% NFU members discount?
Apart from that, shop around. Most dealers will match prices to get a sale, though most franchised dealership new stock will undoubtably come with factory extras pushing the price upwards! 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

One bit of advice, don't mention cash until the last minute, imply you want finance, the dealer gets no reward for cash (unless a small no LR dealer who might do a dodgy VAT deal) but assuming it's all legit then the dealer get no benefit from you not requiring finance. However he does get commission if you take on their finance, so imply you'd be looking at their finance deal, and then once you've haggled on the price then do a cash deal. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

I asked my local dealer about discounts, and he said don't bother even asking.....but to "compensate" they stick on a few options like privacy glass, upgraded alloys, bluetooth etc,so it may be worth going down that route ? "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Thanks for all the replies. Excuse my ignorance:
What's NFU/ qualification criteria please?; &
What's the 5.9% finance your refer to/ what's the criteria for that please?
Thanks...

Dealers will definately do discounts if pushed hard enough, I got 10% of a D4 Commercial which included the 3% NFU discount.
I just told them I would go with an independant broker if they didn't match the price, they folded straight away.

I am just a regular punter and got £1800 knocked off plus a few goodies added on - just at the expense of a few days of e-mail exchanges.

I was told that you need to be a NFU member for at least 3 months before you get the voucher, and I also heard that some dealers are now not offering the discount from NFU especially on the new 2012 D4 ?
Personally I think it's only a matter of time though, as there is no shortage of 2012 spec D4's in the classifieds, but they do seem to be at near new retail prices.

Again, thanks for all of the helpful replies.
Was your discount/ extras off a new or used car please?
Thanks.
