Buy HSE that is available now or wait for one in March
I have the offer of a new 2012 HSE now at a reasonably good price. I also have the offer from another dealer for one that comes available in March for the same discount. Both are the exact spec and colour I want.
Question is - what do I do? How much will the new plate put on the future value?

But for the matter of 6 weeks you can hav a nice 12 plate, if youre getting it for the same price i'd wait,,, the residual value will be better on the 12 plateIf it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Now atht plates change every 6 months I don't think the residuals are quite so affected, personally I wouldn't worry, there's snow on the way!

if you've already got a car (and you're sure you can secure the other one at the other dealer) then wait for March it's only 7 weeks away.
Unless of course it snows...... in which case you'll regret not getting earlier Bodsys Brake Bible

Just get it now and put a private plate on it... feels new until the D5 comes out and doesn't effect residuals.

Get it now coz come March you are just going to start wondering what the 2013 model has and is it worth waiting for.

In the same sort of situation,my new D4 is in at dealers and they are keen for me to take it but i bought it for 1st march and feel it will be worth less as a 61 plate rather than a 12 plate when i sell it,already running a D4 so quite happy to wait.

There is no wrong answer. In buying a new car you are accepting of high depreciation so on the one hand just get it.
On the other, if you sell at three years old, a Jan 12 car will be worth about £1000 less than a Mar 12 car. I doubt the car you are selling will depreciate by that much over the next six weeks so you would be a net winner by waiting.
As for the D5, we don't know but the D3 followed the FFRR by two years and the new FFRR is due later this year. 2014?

It's all down to the new anticipated 3.0 litre diesel electric hybrid version of the TDV6 - whether that will appear for 2013 or not in the Discovery (it will be exempt from road tax LOL if it does!)2016 Discovery 4 Commercial
2019 Discovery 5 HSE

Be very interesting to see how the mpg for a 3.0 litre diesel electric hybrid compares to the existing engine? How does carting around another engine, batteries etc and converting the energy twice, make it more efficient?
Plus if too many cars start being exempt from road tax they'll change the rules... like they always do!

Get it now I'd love to be in a position for a new one, newer D3 or a D4 but funds don't allow, so i keep polishing the s t out of my 05 so it still looks ok! TBH many people don't believe its nearly 7 years old due to the private plate hiding its year
