Bush/Emergency Repairs and Tips |
|
Hi All
Fantastic forum and been of great assistance !
I thought there may be some sense in creating a dedicated topic to known manual overrides and fixes in emergency situations, albeit from first hand experience or tips from dealers ? Maybe from experience we can identify common failures that can leave a person in deep when in an isolated place ?
Would be great to have a topic that can be printed out and kept on hand when doing such trips.
Just this week i had a simple malfunction, namely the electronic sensor on the rear door. Couldn't open the door at all, and took to the dealer to resolve. They have ordered and fitted replacement part since. I asked the technician how they were going to get it open to repair ... and he simply held the lock and unlock buttons in together for a while .. and someone else could open the door while held in. That simple trick could have saved a massive stuff up if in the bush and you're packed to the hilt, especially with fridge etc.
I did search for a similar topic, so if I missed that please let me know What do you mean it won't go there ?

The one with the sticking door has been posted elsewhere here . Good idea though not too sure who would maintain it . I personally make a copy of all posts I feel could help in the future (print them to a PDF file) and they always go with me on a trip .

Hard re-set for ECU: Switch off, Open bonnet, wait one minute, disconnect battery (both terminals), touch terminals together for ten seconds.
I think that is right, though I am sure someone will know the correct procedure. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Careful those with dual battery systems - you may just end up with a roasted D3

As I understand it you could be connecting the two terminals of your spare battery together.
If it is not isolated. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

My dual battery only connects about 5 min after starting the car (via a solenoid) . So I assume I should be OK

Connecting the terminals of a bttery makes a big bang. I would make sure you only have the LR leads to connect.
Also if put 12v across the ECU via the earth it may not like it. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
