Broke again

Rang the AA this morning to tow the disco to the dealers. EPB again!!!!!! 4th or is it 5th time the EPB has gone in this D3 in 2 years. This is now with the same dealer who fixed it in December!!!.

When you say broke what do you mean? If my EPB screams and produces the dash error message (which it does a lot Evil or Very Mad )an ignition off for 2 mins always seems to reset it. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

CFB,

I was driving along and the yellow dash warning light along with a "Electronic Parkbrake Failure" message also gear indicator numbers disappeared. Parked up and turned everything off.

Turn back on after a few minutes, all seemed fine, then no auto release and no gear indicator numbers.

This is my 3rd D3 (no where near you I know) and it keeps getting these stupid problems. I am Censored ed off having to take time off work to go to the dealers or to hire car companies to pick up corsas and the like when I have a €70k vehicle that is less then two years old and is ending up in the dealers every 3 or 4 months. All bits including rear brake disks replaced under warranty last Feb and in Dec they said they replaced bits (along with track rods and other stuff) again under warranty.

YB 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

I don't think the fault you have, where the gear indicator disappears, is an EPB fault. I had it on mine a few weeks ago - exactly the same, and it was the X-Y gear position sensor (I think that's what it's called) that needed recalibrating. Worked for me. If it persists then that position sensor probably needs replacing. Worth a try to follow the recalibration yourself before going to the dealer, and all the hassle that comes with that. Previously:
2005 D3 2.7 TDV6 S
1984 90 2.25 Petrol CSW
1992 90 200TDi Hard Top
1995 Discovery ES 300TDi

hmmmm - I had this happen twice before, once on this car and once on a previous one. I know that the dealer has replaced the sensor in the past.

Oh I am getting them to look at the drivers window which has a mind of its own and is very difficult to close while they are at it. 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

Had the same problem way back Patrick. X-Y sensor was replaced but the problem persisted until the Transfer Case Module was replaced.It took half a dozen trips before it was realised.
