How about Britpart TDV6 parts ?

Hi Guys,

I just bought a Disco 3. When I bought it, the engine made a loud banging noise and and exhaust noise when (difficultly) running.
I towed it home. I tried a few restarts to understand what was wrong. In the process, the engine seized.

I first thought about a timing belt / sync exhaust chain broken.
I opened the rocker covers. Everything is ok up there.

I am now opening the bottom part of the engine. I allready found gold-colour chips in the oil sump.

Long story short, in the latest Britpart catalog, there are now a lot of parts for the TDV6 engine.
Has anyone tried these parts ?
Is it as the usual " Censored " or is it worth installing them ?

Hi Globetrotter,

I will open the engine and change only what's wrong.
That's why I wonder about Britpart quality.

Going by past build quality on SOME of their parts, I know what my opinion would be on anything crucial that was supplied in a blue box

I did use some of their parts on my Disco TD5 and never had a problem but not their pattern parts

If its the crank, then use a Ford Territory engine as they are almost identical. Many threads on here about swapping them.

Thanks for the advice.

I am trying to get the crank out of the engine without lifting the body.
Would I need to disconnect the gearbox or only the 4 bolts on the starter / coupling tooth wheel is enough ?

Taking crank out requires moving gearbox back and removing TC or clutch depending on manual or auto. Better off removing engine and stripping when out - seems a lot of effort when a swap would be easier.

If the crank is broken the the block is kaput too! New block or a donor vehicle required.

Indeed probably not, but borders pose no problems there so he has a vast EU area to look.

Hi Pete,

Indeed, not a lot of Jag in France.
But we have Peugeot 407 and Citroën C5/C6 also equiped with this V6 2.7L engine.

Any ideas of the differences in the engines, apart from the 1/2 turbo setup ?

Okay.

It might be due to the engine setup.
Usually, the Peugeot have the engine cross road mounted and not parallel to the road.

(Moteur transversal et pas longitudinal).

Let’s see with further dismounting. The crank is moving. I managed to remove the 4 screw between the flex plate and the torque converter.

Who knows how to remove there crank bearing holding bridges ?
Is it an « use force and don’t think » story ?
