Re: After Brexit Import Headache?

Anyone have any experience buying parts from the UK after Brexit?
Maybe there's a big European supplier I am not aware of?
I have had a few deliveries from the UK get delayed by several weeks recently, so I am trying to be a bit more careful where I order from.
Yes. I have ordered from two places after brexit - Advanced Factors and LRdirect. In both cases I selected DHL Worldwide Express.
AF - paid to merchant with credit card as usual, sold as VAT 0%. Had to submit customs clearing by myself (didn’t want to pay DHL for it), paid VAT and customs and got the package released from customs hold. Easy peasy.
LRdirect - paid merchant with credit card. They sell to EU using incoterms “DTP”, thus I paid Finnish VAT, customs, etc. in advance to them. I think “processing” was charged as 7.50 eur which was in this case fine. Even more easy peasy. According to tracking package was immediately cleared through customs, no holds.
Both worked well from my perspective and if I had to choose to do it again I think I’d use AF because they shipped to package faster. LRdirect did something themselves for three days. After all, if I’m splurging on DHL with committed delivery times I don’t want to spend days waiting for internal logistics at the merchant even if they claim “in stock”.
Haven’t used Rimmer Bros but I was thinking of using them in a few weeks time.

Thanks Kajtzu.
I think I might need to do an identical order with both to see who delivers fastest/best.
4 spark plus from each should do it Pre-Production

DHL are still flying the route on a nightly basis, and collect from the factory in Belgium each evening, so why are the parts not being delivered the following day, quite simply because they are not being put out for collection?
And however hard you want to blame us leaving the EU for everything, our government has nothing to do with staff in Belgium being told to deal with UK destined freight differently.

one of my/our suppliers who depend on at least 50% of export from UK to EU were emailing us yesterday
===============
European Orders- Suspension
While many of our European Road shipments are getting through to our customers, we are still seeing delays at numerous UK xxx hubs... We are also seeing shipments returned to our central warehouses, which we will aim to resend, or refund.
In order to facilitate the extra administration required to clear all customer backlogs, we are temporarily suspending all customer orders to mainland Europe until further notice.
=================
this was only one of the messages we get... from the UK...
it is simply because it costs them more than the profit they can make..
if that is 50% of your business.... well ..... do i have to say more?...
i think NONE of the companys who are trading (Both UK & EU) are interested in delaying... complete noncence IMHOBest regards

And yes, I’m not aware of any decent stockist in Europe. Even the main dealers keep little stock and orders for items not in stock are 7+ days from, I assume now, some JLR (or inchcape?) depot in U.K. (dealer’s words).
Perhaps someone (AF?) should establish an European warehouse in The Netherlands or something

Yup, it seems that dealers rarely carry stock.
Just ordered a battery tie down/clamp/holder/bracket from nearest LR via my local LR independent.
Onc screw arrived from Madrid, the rest has to come from the UK.
They first said it would take 2-3 weeks, but then my local guy told them the car is "unable to move", which apparently is internal LR code for "SHIP IT URGENTLY" so it will be here early next week.
But I am still missing so many parts that got lost by FedEx around Christmas...Pre-Production

So, for those of you who 'think' they know why my lads parts do not arrive the following day, he had a call from the UK reps boss in Belgium.
It is quite simple, as we left the EU, we are now treated the same as any other destination country.
Parts ordered, irrespective of time of day, will be shipped the day after being ordered. It is nothing to do with paperwork, it's just company policy.

What part of that did you not understand, company policy is EU countries get parts the next day, non EU two days.

DSL, if only it were that simple, the only other company is French and more expensive, and when we tried them they sent the wrong part twice.
The Belgian company has set up a UK warehouse, it has problems keeping a full stock, but is getting better. They can get next day, but then it's another day to the engineers, so no different to ordering from Belgium where the staff are currently more knowledgeable.
It is what it is, but is a direct result of Brexit which in truth does not need to be, logistically nothing has changed.

I understood everything, it seems to me that you didn’t understand what I wrote...
That is what people wanted. They wanted nothing to do with the EU and most of them Europe too.
So now they have just that. The countries in the Eu are not punishing the U.K, they are treating the U.K. as a third country, which is exactly what it is and wanted to be.

I'm sure in time everyone will get used to the processes and times and costs will improve - after all it is human nature to follow the money.
I enjoy excellent food & wine from, in particular, Spain & France, but also other EU countries.
I regularly buy Jamon Reserva Serrano from a Spanish supplier who is excellent. Normally I have a leg 2 or 3 times a year, one of which I usually collect in Barcelona, but with lock-down I haven't ordered since late autumn. Delivery is usually 3-5 working days, so wanting a leg by the end of the month I signed on to the website to be told:-
Quote:
Shipment to the UK is temporarily suspended until customs authorities and carrier customs personnel sort things out to easen customs clearance of packages and get deliveries to work in predictable times.
We apologize for all the inconveniences this may cause. As soon as we resume shipments to the UK, we will notify you
I know I can buy something similar already in the UK, even from Amazon, but I have dealt with my Spanish supplier for at least 15 years, and know that I get excellent hams at a fair price.

My wife had a package with xmas presents that she sent to Portugal get last in the post, so in January she tried to post it again, it has been stuck in customs for about 3 weeks and we are going to have to pay charges on it. this is/was xmas presents... imagine a company having to deal with this sort of stuff.
Thankfully we've got the sunlit uplands to look forward to!!
