Breakdown - serious failure in engine systems message
When driving back from Croatia with my Disco 4 3 litre diesel HSE spec with my boat trailer (2.5 tons) I suddenly experience an error message coming up during driving in Slovenia. It said: "serious failure in engine systems". My engine was down on power (by engine management system) and I was not able to drive faster than 80 km/h. The manual said I had to see a Land Rover dealer and could not drive on. The car felt ok further. So I had to be towed to the nearest LR dealer in Lubljana which was 90 km away.... When I arrived at the dealer, the technician was waiting outside already and before I said anything he said "low on engine power?". I said yes. He said that morning another guy from Austria with a brand new Disco 4 (same specs as mine) with just 700 km experienced the same problem. He checked my engine error codes and confirmed I had exactly the same problem ! The fix was easy: they resetted the error codes and installed a new software update. The technician said before the just resetted the error codes but this resulted in the problem coming back again. Recently the received instructions from LR to install this update. After 30 minutes we could drive again. Everything went smoothly when driving back to Holland. It is a pleasure to drive this Disco 4...when its working.....)))))
Compliments to Landrover Ljlublajana/Slovenia for the excellent service !!!
Thumbs down for Landrover Assistance which was crap. I called this guy serveral times but he was only interested who was paying the bill instead of helping me out first. He kept on talking about confirmation from Landrover Holland....and did nothing. It appeared they just call the AA. I was covered for this by the Dutch AA, so I asked them to help me which they did very professionally. Landrover Assistance was of no added value what soever. Dont rely on them. Just take a good AA cover.
I had another problem in the beginning of the holiday: just one wiper was dead, the other worked. The issue was a worn out bolt of the wiper which has to be replaced.

Addition
One addition: the LR computer showed that the false error code was focussed on an "engine injector failure". But as said this is not the case and is due to a software error....
Friend of mine had a similar problem towing a caravan this weekend. Not sure if LRSA knows about the software update. They were apparently not very helpful at the dealer he visited.

UPDATE
After 30.000 km with the Disco4 I can report no other problems at all.
O wait, yes my wiper fell off last week, but was replaced under guaranty....its a British car anyway !
Overall I am very satisfied and impressed by this car. Several modifications underway:
- Prospeed roofrack
- hidden winch from Devon 4x4
- rooftent
