Brake wear sensor damage
Cruising home up the A3 late the other night the dash lit up and I had the standard warning message for a brake pad wear sensor having been activated.
A bit odd I thought as I’d checked the state of both front and rear pads a few weeks ago before a long journey.
I only changed the rear pads a couple of thousand miles ago, and I knew the fronts had plenty of life left in them.
It also seamed a bit odd the sensor had tripped when cruising at speed, not after braking.
I always keep an eye on the pads, and never have to change the wear sensors as I change the pads before the sensor gets activated.
I know the sensors are really cheap, and changing the pads early is probably less cost effective than getting more life out of the pads and changing the sensor, but I prefer to do it that way.
Knowing I had a set of Front pads and sensor in stock I went to change the fronts on Friday thinking it must be them.
The pads looked ok through the wheel, so I checked the rears through the wheel and they looked OK too.
So I took the front nearside wheel off, and confirmed the sensor was fine.
It was at this point I had to make a trip to Alton for a new Locking wheel nut key before taking the rear offside wheel off as the old one broke.
When I did get the rear wheel off I was greeted with this:

I don’t remember hearing anything bouncing about under the car before the sensor tripped, but the wires have been ripped out of the moulded bit that attaches to the pad.
A new sensor obviously cured the warning lights.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

more likely to be corrosion as if anything caught the wire it would have pulled the sensor from the pad as the clips are rather weak,i quite often have trouble getting the sensor to stay in the pad if there not genuine pads and i also have had one floating about inside the rim but was not damaged please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick,thankyou
