brake wear light

brake wear light

the brake warning light came on today so presume its time for new brakes,
will i need all 4 brakes doing or just front pads ?
will i need new sensors as well ?
is it an easy job with no special tools ?
are landrover pads the best to get or is there somewhere else worht going to ?
sorry so many questions but its the 1st time

Might be 2 pads, might be all - you'll have to look

Once the light is on you'll need at least one sensor (there is one on the front, one on the rear, opposite sides)

No special tools required (over any other vehicle pad change)

I've always used LR pads - try Nick at Yeovil (The Large One on Disco3), tell him you're from here and he'll sort you out a discount Thumbs Up

Hi

Have a look at this link for front pads http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Changing_Brake_Pads, or check the GTR fro detailed instructions.

You will need the front and rear sets of pads and one front and one rear brake pad sensor.

I would suggest Genuine Parts, you can check with forum member The Large One in the UK.

I changed all a couple of weeks back, relatively easy.

Don't leave it too long before changing them.

Warning light on = next to Censored -all brake pad left which means that you will end up needing discs as well if the metal carrier on the brake pad makes contact with the disc (if they haven't already!)
 Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills Smile

how long are we talking to change all four as need to fit it in but as busy with things dont want to start it and not have tim to finishit.

Took me 2 1/2 hours to do all four wheels plus both sensors (and I did the fronts first, including turning the car round as I wasn't sure I had enough time to do all four).

England 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Arctic FrostDiscovery 3

Can anyone give me an idea as how many miles they are getting out of a set of front and rear pads.

I have 27.5 k miles on but i will be doing 2.5 k miles soon to France.

Don't know weather to change them before I go.

There looks like 6mm left front and rear how much before I get warnings on wear.

Any ideas welcome.

51000 out of my first set (front and rear) then changed all disks and pads at about 85000 although the pads had plenty left on them ..i changed them for kevlar ones and groved disks

Warning starts at about 3 mm
 G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The life of the break pads really depends on if you drive off-road and if you go through muddy/sandy water.
Traction controll eats brake pads. And I have a rear diff lock.

Been through 2 sets of pads (front and rear) and 1 set of discs in 52000 miles. Oddly, the rear pads seem to wear quicker than the front ones Question

That big white thing you hitch to the back of the car will cause more braking to be done on the heavily weighted rear axle, hence the wear.

£190 incl VAT for parts & labour at LRM in Speke, Liverpool - £185 cheaper than at Hatfields!

Now there's 90000kms on o'clock and still running on original pads. I do use commandshift extensively for engine braking though...
