Brake Warning Lights & Simultaneous Failed Electrical It

I have searched for information on the following problem but have not found anything that matches. Thoughts on cause and solution would be welcomed.

Driving on motorway, the yellow brake warning light started to flicker. Each time it came on, the radio went off. After 10 minutes the red brake warning light flickered as well - radio still goes off when the light comes on. I pull off motorway, apply and release the handbrake a couple of times and then switch off the iginition, remove the key and let the computer close down and reset (parking brake light extinguishes).

After restart, the problem goes away. The problem has occurred once, although the radio briefly going silent has been a "feature" for some time. Pads are all ok from visual inspection and only a few thousand miles old.
The handbrake or brakes seem to be the cause, probably the former, but why would the other electrical items be impacted - the air con was also turning off - as soon as the brake warnings were resolved, the steamed up windows cleared! I have not experienced the EPB failure reported elsewhere.
