G'day All
In a recent trip up north my brake pad warning light came on (pads replaced 7000k ago) and the alarm dong kept on going off every 20 seconds and again after 7 seconds naturally I was 1200km from home and 300 km from the nearest dealer. After a visit from Road Side Assist and discussions with Landrover Customer non-service the only answer they could give was to go to the nearest dealer. The alarm was causing my 'navigator' a bit of grief so we decided to go to the dealer and naturally this was late on a Friday so no service available until the Monday. On Monday the dealer was excellent and replaced the front sensor but no rear sensor in stock and it would take at least two days for a new one to arrive so the rear sensor was 'manipulated' so stop the alarm. Again Murphy's Law struck and the alarm started going off again - fortunately we were only 50 km from home. The Disco is booked into the local stealer for a replacement rear pad sensor early next week.
We are heading bush into remote areas again in two weeks and if the problem re-occurs our sanity and patience will be severely tested. Can anyone tell me the best way to isolate the sensor alarm or 'fix up' the sensor alarms if this happens out in the scrub. The dealers have been very unhelpful in this regard.
Suggestions on how to fix the problem (not quite ready to get rid of the vehicle yet - and we will carry ear noise protectors) and if possible pics would be appreciated
Have tried a search on the site for this problem but did not find a definitive answer

Just pull it off the brake caliper, cut the end off and join the two wires together, that'll shut it up until you can get it checked out
Might also be worth carrying a few spare ones with you The End

So the sensor works by opening the circuit when worn, I thought it shorted it. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

No, opens it up. As the pad wears it gets worn down until the circuit path is broken. Disco 5 HSE Lux

Thanks
I mangled the sensor wires on mine. sensor came on but it looked like the ends had touched.
Didn't check so looks must have been deceiving.
They are only on opposite wheels I thought of putting them on all four wheels but you would need to connect in series, not parralell. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

CaverD3,
I really wouldn't bother. The system is set up assuming ALL pads wearing evenly. In my experience, this is NEVER the case. The only answer is to have sensors on EVERY pad, OR ignore the sensors & do regular pad checks.
Best Wishes,
Peter

Not if it's a wheel with no sensor. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

But they are only actually on 1 pad per wheel, to have full monitoring you would need 8(!) sensors in place of the current 2 - really not worth the hassle I would have thought.
With a torch and mirror-on-a-stick you can check thickness easily without even removing the wheels.... Cheers

You could fit one on each wheel ..but not 2 ...the caliper is in the way of the brake pad furthest from the car G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Fair point, so you could never monitor more than 50% of the pads so the need for a physical check still wouldn't go away.....
The only redeeming feature is that the inner pads only require the piston in the caliper to move, whereas the outers require the piston and the whole caliper to move, hence may stick more and produce less pressure so maybe wear less than the monitored pads??? Still doesn't explain the cheapo solution of only one sensor per axle.
Brembos have 4 pistons so may be more even application and wear.....would be nice as pads are £100 a set Cheers
