Hi guys,
my two lower brake lights are not working, the top / tailgate mounted one works okay. Both bulbs are okay and have been swapped with a working pair from my Defender - still nothing. The removed bulbs work in the Defender.
I have checked fuses 15 and 66 in the box behind the glovebox - both okay.
Surely the brake light switch would affect all three lights if it is faulty?
I haven't checked for voltage at the bulb holder - I need to get my multimeter back from my father - but all the side, indicator and reverse lights work.
Any thoughts please?

When you say the lower ones, do you mean the main ones in the light cluster, there are 4 bulbs but only the top ones are actually brake lights..the other are side lights but use a stop and tail bulb... this has confused some people in the past...
Sorry if i've got it wrong and misunderstood what you meant by lower ones... If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Grunders, sorry I didn't make it very clear I meant the brake lights (top light) in the main light unit.
This morning I pulled the brake light switch and cleaned the contacts - lots of carbon and traces of arcing - stuck it back together and volia everything working. I'll pop into the dealers tomorrow for a new unit.
Now as a thought has anybody linked the top and middle (side light) together to get 4 brake lights? Chipped, K&N, tow pack, AT2's, Mantec, fridge in boot, invertor, Garmin, laptop/Memory Map, Optima yellow top, Traxide Kit, Phillips Extreme bulbs

The switch is a common failure... And they only cost between £12-20, and take 5 mins to fit...
I've not heard of anyone connecting the brake lights but it'd reduce the possibility of faults occuring... If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works
