Brake Controller issues

HI,

Just wanted to give a quick update on my last two weeks. I recently had a RED ARD brake controller from my D3 and a "hot Wire" (12v+) installed in my D4 (SE) as i tow a Jayco Swan Van & a Boat with Electric over Hydrolic Brakes. after much confusion we worked out the redarc unit does not support electric over hydrolic, so the brake manufactorer advised to get a Prodigy P3.

The Prodigy p3 was installed (it is a Huge Unit compared to the redarc), and the first thing i tried was the Boat Trailer, with the setting in Hydolic/Electric the Brakes worked how ever the "Park" lights came on every time i depressed the brake pedal.

I tried the same on the Jayco with the Electic setting and same deal. I thought it might have something to do with the hotwire as this was the only thing different on the installion in my D4 over the D3! So i went back and had it disconnected.

When i we tried the Jayco, still no joy.. I also noticed i had to have the car & van coupled up for every thing that did work to work?

So i took it back and the spent some time trying to find the issue, we looked at the forums etc and worked out that we may need the diodes as mentioned. So left the car with the Sparky and after a few hours they called my to advise they had found the issue...

He advised that the D4 has a sperate port for left & right park lights and by looping the system (i actually think he said bridging) they were able to get it sorted.

So went home to try it and as long as i have the car coupled up, its all working fine!

Has any body else experianced such issues with the D4?

Regards

Murat

p.s. i also have a Labtronics Pule Busta
The Harder i work, the luckier i get!

Yeah The normal blue wire that Oz use for electric brake is side lights in LR plug.

Hi OzD4,
Have you physically tested this or just compared the UK wiring to Oz standard?

On my D3 the LR wiring was to Oz standard. It could mean that the wrong plugs/wiring was fitted.

Best Wishes,
Peter

Physically did it. Hooked up like normal picking up blue from rear of LR plug, electric brake no go.
cannot remember exact plug numbers but blue in LR plug does not match normal aus pin number.
If you really need numbers for plug & pins I can look up for you.
Cheers Ken

Hi OzD4,
No thanks. As I said my D3 was wired to Oz standard.

It sounds like yours came with the UK spec wiring and probably should be replaced by LR Oz.

Best Wishes,
Peter
