Time for an update as it's been a while! Done a few thousand miles of trouble free motoring, engine oil and filters and a couple more modifications along the way.
I fitted D4 door cards a couple of months back as I thought the D3 ones looked very dated. I picked up a set of bamboo/alpaca door cards on a trip to Devon from a lovely chap on the forum. Straightforward enough to fit with slight modifications to the D3 cables.

Secondly, I fitted these lovely round things which I'm over the moon with. I wasn't sure if grey on grey was going to look good but I think it looks great in my humble opinion!
