If you fit a different body on a Disco chassis/running gear, is this similar to an engine change? For example, one that is burnt or rolled.
I am not talking about the work involved, but the vehicle identity. I would expect the Registration to be associated with the chassis, but in this case physical VIN checks would flag a mismatch. Does anyone have experience of this?

the reg stays with the chassis but its based on a points system . points for major components like axles gearbox engine steering . best check with dvsa before spending any cash .

As above...the main stamped in VIN is the most important which is on the ladder chassis on a D3/4..which is the applicable one...each component accrue certain points value which decides the fate of the future registration status...
Be aware of visible vin numbers etc which would create a mismatch which would lead you into issues with the police...if you’re doing it make sure everything is documented and photographed as proof..otherwise you may find yourself in difficulty and fighting the authorities who would want to Q plate the vehicle ..

You may end up having to put the vehicle through an IVA test, but as already said, document everything and keep all receipts to prove the age. You may end up with a new age related plate, where the oldest of the chassis/body determines that age. VOSA should be able to help.

Steve

The other thing to be cautious of is the salvage rating of either of the cars that are going to be used... there are central records relating to their status which could cause you all sort of grief....

Pretty certain chassis is the car, the body is just a set of clothes.
So long as only one set of ID I cannot see any issues.

Dash swap to keep visible VIN the same
Same with slam panel
Trims are a bit irrelevant, as it could have been swapped/upgraded in its life, as many members here have done
Mileage would require original modules swapped back
Granted, a lot of work, but who's going to know its not the original body? My D3 Build Thread

Yes but you’re not the ordinary chap....to you it’s a quick jog in the park...I mean who else swaps a tdv8 into a car that’s never had one fitted!.... or come to think of it a 5.0 S into ‘something’ else!
Wish you lived closer!

In The Netherlands we have a tax exemption rule for motors older than 25 years and another rule for 40 years and older..... there comes the LR Range Rover (classic) in the picture...
The oldest chassis can be mounted under the latest body of this model... making a huge difference regarding comfort... driving in comfort, like airco and better seating, etc.
Technically, the chassis “makes” the motor and is leading for identification, BUT the dutch TAX people are also aware of these practices... so they invented the 2/3 rule...... for the TAX age, which can therefore be different than the chassis registration age... 2/3 of the motor MUST be the same age as the registration/chassis... If not you pay “modern” tax, instead of oldtimer tax..
Maybe they have the same Or likewise “rules” In the UK, I presume all parts within the same age, will give you the least issues, but put a D4 body on a D3 chassis For instance (while you are there anyway;-)) can give you Maybe tax issues somehow..
Short: do your homework perfectly first Best regards
Harold

I took it for a decent drive yesterday, had a customer who had broken down, so went for a quick diag
A 50 mile round trip. Its a fantastic drive
Handles beautifully, body roll is minimal, no understeer at all (that the RRS seems to struggle with)
Just not quite as quick as the RRS, due to the extra weight, but that's nothing that a remap can't sort My D3 Build Thread
