Bleepin' Tire Jockeys!

Went out to the Lr3 last night to find my rear drivers side tire flat as a flat thing Big Cry

Out with the genuine Halfrauds compressor, and back up to 42.

SWMBO came out to see what all the compressor noise was about - and she actually spotted the nail in said tire - so at least the problem was Censored obvious!

Off to Discount Tire at 8am this morning for my FREE tire repair - laughed hysterically as they tried to jack the LR3 without setting the suspension to 'off-road' first.

I get my keys back after 35 mins - with the usual 'there you go sir, all good'.

I get in, start the engine, and have the TPMS system telling me there's still a low pressure issue! Evil or Very Mad

Back into the shop - get the manager - he says 'oh, those Land Rovers are tricky' and goes hunting for the gadget that wirelessly resets the TPMS sensors!!!

Unconvinced, I reach into the glove box, and RTFM on the TPMS system - figure out it's seeing just low pressure, not a system fault.

Stop manager boy from attempting to reset my TPMS, and suggest he gets his tire pressure gauge out and 'actually check the tire pressures they've just set on all 4 tires'....

Well, what do you know, they've set the pressure wrong (low) ON ALL FOUR TIRES!!!!!! Shocked

Censored Idiots!

The manager did the old 'that's what our system says is the correct pressure for your vehicle' routine.

Amazingly, when they set the tire pressures back to the settings on the sticker in the door well - the TPMS went off. Confused

Now I know they don't hire Harvard Grads at Discount Tire, but when it's your Censored job to fit tires all day - CAN'T YOU EVEN GET THE PRESSURES RIGHT?

TBH I cringe every time i have to use Kwik Censored or a similar outfit and watch the greasemonkey pumping away on the trolley jack under god knows which bit of the D3

Last time I went in they seemed to know the car a bit better as they put it in offroad height, left the tailgate open (and the hazards on - not sure why) but still put the jack under all the wrong places on the car Shocked

On the side of the D3 with the compressor they tend to use the suspension arms (not the jacking points) with a trolly jack as if the thing does slip off... it doesn't puncture the air compressor... that costs them much to get fixed.

I know where the jacking point are if I want to use the D3's jack, but if I use say "KWIK FIT" who always seem to know better, when they shove the industrial trolly jack under, is there anywhere else that the D3 can be jacked up safely without damage.

Only asking as I am ordering MTR's through them soon

Usually use the trolley jacks under the wishbones at Kwik Fit, they are not too bad, just always makes me a little nervous watching them!.

Good deals on MTR's though at said outfit, got a set of 4 for £650 all inc.

Just a note that you all probably know. I bought some wheels over t'internet that use 19mm wheelnuts instead of the usual 22mm with washer. Make sure that nuts are tightened to at least 140Nm with a torque wrench. Also check the nuts again after the first couple of hundred km. The non-standard nuts with Alu wheels can come loose. The standard nuts with washer are better.
There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

I posted recently that the guy at ATS Oldham managed to put mine into superextended mode with flashers on and tailgate open - I was informed that these two operations "tell" the D3 that it is having wheel surgery and not to lower....

Very Happy
I bought a Series IIa LWB Safari in the 1980s on Michelins.

Someone had inflated them so that they "looked" OK, i.e. "like a good cross-ply should".

160 - 180 psi in each Shocked - would have KILLED someone, if one had blown.

The ride was better when I sorted it, too.
