Blanking EGR's while still under warranty

We have about 7 months left of our LR warranty (only the lower level of cover) but I would like to blank the EGR's.

We recently had one of them replaced under warranty not because we were having problems but because of the code showing and this has since dulled the performance and lowered the mpg.

I have the BAS kit to do the job but started worrying about doing this while still under warranty.

Would like your views on this

Cheers

Cliff

I am myself waiting for the end of the warranty to do it. The blanking kit is in the boot of the car in case of emergency.
The older I get, the better I was.

If you fit the blanking kit will it throw up a fault code? If it does then I wouldn't fit them whilst under warrantyt. If no code is thrown, then I would do it.

cheers

Judging by the number of blanked EGRs at my dealer I don't think you will get any warrantee grief.

I really must get around to doing mine as I have had the BAS kit for quite a while. Mine were only freed by the 'miracle' of Wynn's EGR cleaning spray so I may be running on borrowed time. Frankly I am still amazed how the can of EGR spray 'fixed' my problems!

If there would not be any codes then go for it. I wouldn't have thought that it would affect anything else or that the dealer could say that it would.

cheers

Darryl, I have exactly the same problem as you are seeing - went for a test drive with one of the Techs and is going back in Wednesday for more diagnosis.

I get the occasional engine fault too - but no fault code was stored last time Big Cry so the issue is not know - but thought to possibly be a sticking EGR.

If they can't fix it on Wednesday, I may get some spray - on the other hand, mine is under warranty so I want them to fail before it runs out Mr. Green

The thing is as i say ours was actually better with a faulty egr Wink guess depends what position it is failing in??
Thing with the BAS kit is i suppose it is obvious it has been done as the pipes are removed, spose i could always keep them and put them back on if it needs to go in even if it couldnt be done in a breakdown situation.

Well went for it after having a good read of the BAS instructions plus the 2 'how to's' on here Thumbs Up

All went well Very Happy

Couple of little points I thought I might add.

I removed the small sensor out of the top of the butterfly housing and gave that a bit of a clean too as it was full of gunk, also to give slightly easier access to the harder of the 2 egr's I slackened off the side of the second 'battery box' this just made life a little easier for my chunk hands lol

Finally got the chance to fit the blanks yesterday but was put off by the state of the bolts on the EGRs. I will give them a damned good soaking with WD40 first but I am a little fearful of them shearing off.

I'm going to need new bolts - are they 'special' in any way (and therefore need TLO back from his hols) or can replacement bolts be found elsewhere?

Oh and does anyone have the correct torque value for the lower bolts?

Regards to all.
